The Ascendant Lord should be given the first priority. Benefic or Yogakaraka planets for the ascendant. If that planet is occupying friendly signs, is in exaltation or is occupying the auspicious houses then its gemstone can be weared. There is a lot of confusion on the yogakaraka and benefics for a particular ascendant, if some one has a tried and tested list for the same please post it to the group. Gemstones of 6th,8th and 12th houses should be avoided unless they own a trine. As per Parashara the evil effects of the 8th house lordship do not apply to the Sun or the Moon. But some believe otherwise and also believe that as per medical astrology its not right. In my own experience I have Sagittarius ascendant and Saturn in cancer in 8th house which gives me stomach problems (Started in Venus Main – Saturn Antar in 1998). 8th lord moon is in leo in 9th house. I am wearing a 6-7 carat pearl since more than one year. The pearl has helped me tremendously in maintaining my emotional state of mind and controlling my anger, solved my chronic insomnia which toubled me for many years. Although it did not help much in stomach problems. Gems for planets in debilitation should not be used. Lords of trines are ideally good if well placed their gems can be worn. An example : Dob :5th Feb 1977, Place : Mumbai, Time :5.13 Am. In this chart Sagittarius is the ascendant for which mars is a benefic and also yogakaraka. Rasi is leo with the GL and AL in the same house, for leo also mars is a benefic. Mars is the lord of 5th and 12th house palced in 2nd house in Capricorn (Exalted) with sun. Also possibly mercury is combust. The second choice could be diamond or substitute for venus as it is a benefic planet. The supporters can be the yoga karakas or the Lagna lord or whatever. Whereas someone who can pull you back are the dustas (lords of dusthanas) or the lord of satruaruda or like. You should chose a gemstone of your supporters. So not wearing a gemstone of a debilitated planet is not a good criteria for selection. If your supporter become weak, then it becomes more important to make it stronger. So when the lagna lord is debilitated, one should first wear the gemstone of that. Now there are some more considerations, if one gemstone can do the work for more than one planet, then you should chose it. The lord of the sign where Lagna lord is debilitated, if made strong, then also the lord of lagna becomes stronger. However you would like to wear the gemstone of the lord of the sign where the lagna lord is debilitated, only if it is a supporter. The most important part here is that the planet should be well placed from Arudha lagna for giving its effect in this material world. I'm running the Sun Vimshottari dasa and have been wearing a ruby for about 18 months now. Why I decided on the ruby was because BPHS states that the 12th lord acts like who he's with, and in my case, he's with the asc lord himself. I'd also read that the placement of Sun in the 10th isn't too bad. Looking at your post, though, I'm not too sure whether I've done the right thing. What do you think? But even the biggest book stores here dont have any of his books. In an article i read that the gems for dushthanas can be advised provided they also own a trine. And ofcourse well placed. I am wearing a pearl about 6-7 carats since more than 1 yr it has helped me tremendously mentally.
