Guest guest
Aum Namah Shivaya Dear group, After seeing the link about Vyasa Maharsi, that another member had posted to the vedic astrology group, I thought that I should share something here. During the past eighteen months, I had been writing on quite a few things- from astrology to the agamas. One such work that I had finished drafting, is on the life and message of Vyasa who is verily an embodiement of Dharma. While the entire body of Vedic literature including the puranas and the Mahabharata is a gift of Vyasa to humanity, interestingly there is not even a single book on him. (there are some books that cover a chapter or two on him and mostly deal with his WORKS. So as part of my Swadhayaya and Sadhana, I took it upon myself to compile all the references to Vyasa from the puranas and other literature, and then re-create his life in a way that teaches the crux of his works. I believe that teaching or spreading His message through his own life and words is an effective way. In the end I came up with a sixty page story of the lives of Parasara and Vyasa, the greatest combination of father and son ever, the story of the fulfilment of a great mission (perhaps the greatest mission in this Yuga). I even painted and sketched around forty pictures (mostly black and white),of interesting events in their lives. I finished my first draft on Vyasa Poornima this year! And now to the main point. A work of this kind cannot be faultless when a single individual does the work. But I made every effort to be true to the authentic puranic versions as much as possible. At this stage, if any knowledgeable person wishes to help me or even take over, I would gladly step behind. Moreover we need to first be SURE THAT WHAT WE ARE GIVING TO THE SOCEITY, IS AUTHENTIC AND GOOD. IT IS A RESPONSIBILITY. SPIRITUAL KNOWLEDGE SHOULD NOT BE DISTORTED.But some amount of reasonable creative imagination could perhaps be allowed to fill the gaps as long as the original content is not distorted in any way. This is what K.Munshiji (BVB) seems to have tried to do in some of his narrations on Parasurama or Krsna. BTW I am serious about making some documentaries or still better some episodes on the lives of great risis and saints. I have even bought broadcast quality digital equipment worth $50,000 recently. I have NOT bought this to EARN on it. If the SJVC or anyone else seriously interested in spiritual work useful to all, wishes to create some good programs, they are welcome to use the equipment freely when I am not doing something (it would be idle 75% of the time). And now to Vyasa Maharsi. I am posting 4 chapters the first and the last from my work for a sample. If anyone has the willingness to work on it as a sadhana, and of course the required capabilities, please feel free to contact me. Even if we dont have a publisher, I will fund the publishing part. Even if you cannot work on it, any good leads, guidance etc will be appreciated. I am posting a rough draft of the sample chapters in another post. It may be 12 pages long. Guest guest
Aum Namah Shivaya Dear Purushottaman, Jagmmet and Visti, Thanks for the feedback. I think I might post the other chapters after I put Visti's advice into action. Earlier I thought of giving the references, but later refrained from doing so, because it can spoil the flow as a single page can at times have as many as six to ten references! As I remarked in an earlier post in an article, "Each text highlights certain things and has its own uniqueness while all the texts have some similiarities. Some stories are differently narrated in different puranas. I have tried to capture the spirit of the story while remaining faithful to the original. Wherever two puranas differed I followed the more plausible version. I also preferred the most common version. At the same time, if a purana could add to the richness of detail to the central story selected from another, I borrowed such additional details. Rarely I took the liberty of adding a comment or two where it seemed relevant. But such comments too are based on a knowledge of other sacred texts considered to be an integral part of the Vedic literature. The agamas, jyotisa or astrology, the itihasas, the puranas, all support each other". So what you read in a single page is sometimes extracted from different sources (that quite often vary). So if I give references, I should give notes too, which might tend to break the flow. But I guess I could give footnotes, so that the reader can read the story in a flow WITHOUT INTELLECTUALISING, and those who are interested can always refer to the footnotes later. So all this will take some time. But in the meantime I may post on other topics of interest.
