Narasimhaji,

Thank you very much for the explanation.

I have a few questions for you regarding future releases of JH (lite

& commerical version).

1) Are you intending to use color coding to describe planets in

exalted/debilitated state and/or afflictions? Such visual

presentation will be of tremendous use to newbies like me, who have

to refer to books for planetary strengths and frindliness of the

signs where the planets reside, etc. In one software, I noted that

many such information is provided by simple highlighting/ underlying

of Graha names and with accompanying up and down arrows to specify

vargottam, same sign, exaltation, debilitation and other properties

of the grahas.

2) Is there a possibility of creating an open source library for

vedic astrology calculations. If such an open source library is

formed and hosted through contributions of members (monetary or

through providing web hosting space, etc), I believe

computer/software enthusiasts among us can contribute to the

evolution of a sophisticated library for vedic astrology softwares.

Volunteers can also afford their services in terms of writing online

help documentations, testing and bug fixing if necessary.

Commercial versions of JH will still be viable if it provides more

user friendly features (e.g, point (1) above) and suuport for

advanced dasa schemes, etc., on top of the open source code

(JFC/JFL -Jyotish Foundation Classes/ Library)

Thanks.

-Siva.

PS:

I understand you may not like being called with a 'ji', but I am

much younger and feel uncomfortable addressing you and others here

without a 'ji' or Sri. or Mr.

Dear Siva,

I am currently working on doing something similar to what you have

mentioned. But I am keeping the option of making it both web based

for better version control and a PC client based (VB/VC++).

Among the features I could imagine are all the standard ones

available in existing softwares plus:

- Standard interpretations based on a database that can

be downloaded and updated in s/w in a PC from time to time.

- Ability to compute and/or enter each planet position and

chart details manually and analyze the details.

- All types of aspects.

- Ability to turn a chart making any house as lagna.

- Different colour coding for houses to show which

is strong and which is weak.

- A quick calculation option which would analyze all div. charts

and show whether the placement of planets is positive or negative.

(basically do all calculations in one shot and show the results

for interpretation)

- In the event of a conflicting interpretation, show all results

for the user to decide on his/her own.

- Ability to enter TWO or more charts at same time and help

in family level analysis instead of doing at an individual

level. I hope this would be useful in determining common

patterns in within a family.

- Basic match making derived from above feature.

- Ability to use a dasha and see common trends w.r.t. transits

and paint an overall picture (+ or - or neutral) to help

get the bigger picture.

The intent is not commercial but desire to gain pure knowledge

and share the same. I have about 11 years of s/w dev experience

in many platforms. The work will take some time and I am not

sure when it could be ready as I have to manage my role as

an engineer, MBA student and also pursue accumulating specific

information from such forums from time to time.

Sometimes you might notice my postings asking a particular

question not in sync with the rest of the threads. Basically

they are aimed at correcting some feature in my software.

Any subject help would be welcome in future !
