Hi,

I know it is accepted that retro planets are past curses, and that the

circumstances and type of curse is to be winkled from D-60. It is another view

that retro planets' actualization is slower than when direct. If I've

understood this right, the curse is to deny the fruit of a planet despite it

being placed somewhere in the native's chart.

Well, if that's so, why then is combustion not be deemed a curse too? The Sun

blocking the rays of a planet apparently looks as similar in denial as a retro

one. The planet is there but is sort of helpless because it is placed so. I'd

go a step further in respect of those planets (other than the Sun) that get

defeated in planetary war.

Why are vanquished (in war) and combust grahas not deemed curses? I'd be

grateful if someone spares a minute for a reply.

[vedic astrology] The curse of retrogression

I would like to add a few thoughts here. Curses is a somewhat different issue

from retrograde planets. Maharishis Parashara gives a whole chapter on curses

from previous lives. This is ch. 85 in Sagar's edition. Parashara describes

curses for childlessness, but they can be extenden to other houses besides the

5th. The principle is that the house, its lord as well as its natural

significator should all be afflicted either together or separately by malefics.

The strongest afflicting planet will determine the cursing person's status as

follows: Jupiter - teachers or brahmins; Rahu - sarpa or snakes; Sun - father;

Moon - mother, Mars - brother; Mercury - maternal uncle; Venus - wife; Saturn -

forefathers or ghosts. For example Jupiter in Bhagava Sri Rama's chart receives

graha dristi from Mars and Saturn and thus indicates curse by a brahmin

fulfilled by the father (Jupiter lord of 9th house) and afflicting mainly

marriage (7th house and Upapada).

Retrograde planets would rather indicate some unfulfilled duties or unrealised

desires from previous life, and although it causes delays in the results, it

also makes the native try harder as retro planets are stronger than while

direct.

Combust means that some one obstructs you from achieving the results attributed

to the combust planet. It is suppressed by a higher power. Of course the cause

may be karmic in this case also, but it would be that you have also suppressed

somebody in your previous life.

Why are vanquished (in war) and combust grahas not deemed curses? I'd be

grateful if someone spares a minute for a reply.

Planetary war I would put as follows: the winner takes over everything from the

loser. So the defeated planet could indicate some debts from previous life

repayed now. But the winning planet would indicate some debts repayed to you or

unexpected victory. Still you should see how the two planets relate to AK, Lagna

and AL in order to see how much gain or loss will thye bring to you, and their

Karakatwas and ownership to decide who will conquer or be conquered by you.

Also rajayogas and viparita rajayogas should be considered here.

Yours,
