Neither could I. Lot of people suggest that vegetarianism was a

concept introduced into Hinduism due to the influence of Buddism and

jainism.

 

In fact folklore has it that Sages Agastya and Vishwamitra used to

eat non-veg food (but not cow). Isnt there a story of some asura

brothers killing rishis using their non-veg eating habits. The story

goes like this - the younger asura will take the form of a goat and

his brother (older asura) will offer the goat as food for rishis.

After rishies consume the goat meat, he will call for his youngre

brother to come out, which he will from the stomach of the rishi

killing the rishi. When they tried that trick on Sage Agastya, it

failed, because Agastya digested the asura in goat form.

 

I have heard many other stories of Vishwamithra eating meat.

 

I am trying to give up my non veg habits as Guru Sanjay has asked

jyotish students to be vegetarians (it is very difficult if you live

in USA/west and dont cook).

 

Will the jyotish and spiritual Gurus enlighten us?
