Ayanamsha Confusion - Gurus please help?

Hello to all, especially Gurus,

I have tried to play around with some birthtime rectification

recently. It is pretty hard for a beginner of course - I play around

with adding and subtracting a few minutes from the birthtime and view

the Saptamsha chart and others to get a clue as to the possible

correctness of the time. As I expect, when I add or subtract a few

minutes to the birthtime, the RASI occupied by grahas ALMOST NEVER

changes in ANY divisional chart, simply because in a few minutes, the

only planet that makes any appreciable move is the Moon, and that

also very very little - so even the Moon rarely ever moves in any

divisional chart. Only the Lagna changes, faster and faster as you go

deeper into the divisional charts (D-2,3,..). This makes it a little

easier - at least you know with a high degree of certainty what the

RASI position of each planet is in the divisional chart - so for

example in Navamsa, you can say with certainty what the Karakamsa is.

All this is assuming the default Ayanamsha of course -

Chitrapaksha/Lahiri. However, now when you throw in Ayanamsha also

into the game, you may get several planets moving around in the

divisional charts, as you change Ayanamsha. It is another dimension

of movement altogether and very confusing. I am looking for some

clarity here and a pointer to some earlier posts since I am sure this

topic must have been discussed here. Here are immediate questions

that spring to the fore:

1) Which is the best ayanamsha in the experience of the Gurus?

2) Why is Chitrapaksha/Lahiri the accepted default - due to the fact

that it has worked well, or does it make more astronomical sense or

both? If both, why are other ayanamshas around at all?

3) What is Devadutta ayanamsha and why is it so talked about? Should

we be using it (the average beginner, i.e.)?

4) How in the world is rectification done when the Ayanamsha

dimension is thrown into the mix?

Thank you,

Sundeep
