Lords of Thithi and Hora Conflict

Namaste,

Thithi i.e. lunar day is one of the five limb of Panch'ang. I have read that

1st, 6th, and 11th thithis are related with Venus; 2nd, 7th, 12th with Mercury;

3rd, 8th, 13th with Mars; 4th, 9th,14th with Saturn; and 5th, 10th,15th are

lorded by Jupiter.

But Narasimharao said (in a message Oct'2002) that "Pratipat to Ashtami are

ruled by Sun to Rahu in weekday lord order (with Rahu added at the end). Navami

to Chaturdasi are ruled by Sun to Venus in weekday lord order. Pournima is ruled

by Saturn and Amavasya by Rahu".

Q1) What is the correct lordship regarding Thithi?

Hora is also consider important (specially in parshan and shad bala

computation). The problem I have with sequence of Hora lord. There are 24 horas

in total in which 12 are from sunrise to sunset and remainings 12 are from sun

set to sun rise. Every day the first hora is of the day lord, e.g. on Sunday

first hora is lorded by Sun. till here all agrees.

Some give the order according to the motion/speed of grahas:

Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon.

While others mentioned the hora sequence like day lord order:

Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn.

Q2) What is the true hora lordship either speed-wise or day-wise? and is there

any concept of Rahu hora? if yes than how can it is computed?

Regards

M.Imran

Dear Muhammad,

The tithi lords are as followd:

Pratipad and Navami - Sun

Dwitiya and Dashami - Moon

Tritiya and Ekadashi - Mars

Chaturthi and Dwadashi - Mercury

Panchami and Trayodashi - Jupiter

Shashthi and Chaturdashi - Venus

Saptami and Amavasya - Saturn

Ashtami and Purnima - Rahu

The hora lords are according to the speed of the planets. The day lord rules

the first hora of the day. So on Thursday, the first hora will be ruled by

Jupiter, on Friday, by Venus and so on.

Best regards,

Sarbani

Pranam,

Thanks. But it might be possible that at different places the order of thithi

lordship may change. The sequence, Nanda (1,6,11=Venus),

Bhadra(2,7,12=Mercury), Jaya(3,8,13=Mars), Rikta(4,9,14), and

Poorna(5,10,15=Jupiter) thithi is also seen in many books, softwares, and

specially in the middle of Sarvotabhadra chakkra. Or your mentioned lordship

order is universal for all purposes.

What is Rahu Hora?

Regards

Imran
