Question on Rudra

Dear members of this list,

I’ve read with a great interest the last debate on rudras/violent death and

I am a bit consternating. It is surprising for me, that 2nd & 8th lords

counted zodiacally are taken for reckon rudra.

In “Vimshottari dasa” S.Rath gives (accidentally?) on p.91 this method of

reckoning, but we have in JUPS sloka 2.1.35: “The stronger of the eighth

houses from the ascendant or the seventh house is Rudra” followed by

numerous examples, in which S.Rath takes the 8th lord from lagna or 7th on

the basis of Vriddha Karika (JUPS, p.170, 172, 177, 186, 189, 190…).

V.Dikshita wrote in Jataka Parijata (transl. Sastri, sloka 18-38): “the

lords of the two eighth places» and not “the lords of second and eight

places” with reference to Shoola dasa (hence Rudra). Follows separately the

slokas for 2nd lord and not for 8th from 7th (18-43,44,45). This shows, that

8th from 7th isn’t necessarily the 2nd in common sense.

In my humble opinion, rudra counted on the basis Vriddha Karika gives very

good results; even in Vimshottari.

For example, in the chart of Indira Gandhi, Mercury is Rudra on the basis

Vriddha Karika. If we take VD started from Moon, we have Sa/Ra/Ra at the

time of her death. Saturn is in parivartana of nakshatra with Mercury; hence

Saturn gives in large extend the results of Mercury.

Rahu is in parivartana of Nakshatras with Ketu, Ketu is in parivartana of

sign with Mercury, hence a strong association of Rahu with Mercury.

So dasa, bukhti and antardasa at the time of death were strictly associated

with Rudra.

Vimshottari dasa from Lagna (Ra/Ke/Sat) confirms the importance of Mercury.
