The Mudgala panchanga for this year (Swabhanu) is now available from

http://www.mudgala.com/panchanga.

This is a free, high precision panchanga calculated for a wide variety of places.

Please note that the format is slightly different from previous years. In

particular, it now gives the end times for tithis, yogas, karanas and

nakshatras.

I would appreciate any comments you may have.

is visible in your location, and how much obstruction will be visible)

Time of Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset

Time when grahas move into rasis, and change direction

Rahu Kalam, Gulika Kalam and Yama Kandam based on Sunrise and Sunset

Various Festivals and Vrata dates (where method of reckoning is known)

All times given in local time (daylight savings time accounted for)

The vedic definition of a day (sunrise to sunrise) and month (starts with

prathama prevailing at sunrise) are used.

Calculations use high precision ephemerides with lahiri ayanamsa.

Dear Chandrashekhar,

Astronomical events (sankranti, tithi, nakshatra, ...) occur at a single moment,

regardless of lat / lon.

Thus, you can "correct" these easily based on time zones.

The only regional variations are with:

1) sunrise / sunset, moonrise / moonset. Instead of correcting, get the exact

time from your weather channel / newspaper.

2) rahu kalam etc when calculated from sunrise/sunset.

3) festival / vrata dates - these have non-trivial methods of reckoning. A

simple correction is not possible.

This effort was started because I wasn't happy with approximations. I would be

happy to expand the list of places for which panchangas are generated (within

reason). I am hesitant to add any more places within India--In fact I wanted to

remove all Indian locations. There are very good regional Indian panchangas

available. The point of this effort was not to displace these panchangas, but

to provide something for areas where nothing is current available.

The omission was deliberate.
