Sunrise and other options in JHora

Namaste all,

Not only is the sunrise time dependent on the place and season, but it is also

dependent on the definition used. Some astrologers take the moment when the

center of Sun's disk truly rises on the eastern horizon. Some astrologers take

the moment when the upper tip of Sun's disk truly rises on the eastern horizon.

Some astrologers take the moment when the upper tip of Sun's disk *appears to*

rise on the eastern horizon (due to the refraction of sunrays in atmosphere,

Sun's tip appears to be on the eastern horizon a few minutes before it actually

is on the eastern horizon). The definition used changes the ghati lagna, hora

lagna etc in divisional charts.

The newly released commercial version (Jagannatha Hora 5.0) supports all the 3

definitions for sunrise.

In addition, for starting the weekday and horas, some people use the fixed 6 am

LMT instead of the variable sunrise. Jagannatha Hora offers that facility too.

In fact, Jagannatha Hora comes with a lot of options that one can set based on

one's preference. This allows researchers to experiment. At the same time, for

the benefit of beginners, all the options are preset to the values that I

recommend based on my experience.

Just before releasing it formally, I scrambled and added a few missing options

like the "7 chara karaka" vs "8 chara karaka" option. Followers of K.N. Rao, I

am sure, would want to use 7 chara karakas rather than 8.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,

Narasimha

Sunrise of next day, although the weekday changes in the english calendar, it

remains the same for Jyotish purpose. Weedays form a very vital part as one of

the panchanga, so we need to take the Jyotish definition and not english

calendar difinition. Please get back, if is not happening this way.> > Best
