Guest guest
---Om Brihaspataye Namah--- Dear List members, Meanwhile I have been following the debate on the basis for determining birth time. Let me recap: The debate can be summarised thus "When does a baby start life on its own?" Note the last phrase "on its own". This implies that the baby is capable of living on its own without "fully" depending on its mother. I use the word "fully" because the baby still needs food and care from the mother if it is to evolve into a full -fledged human being. Now lets examine when the baby starts living on its own. Is it when the umbilical cord is cut? Obviously not, because there is still no guarantee that the child can survive on its own. Is it when the baby first breathes or cries? Evidently yes, because breathing or crying involves the use of air, ergo some independent movement has been made by the baby, moreso when one considers that prior to childbirth, oxygen is supplied by the mothers blood via the placenta. Still there is no guarantee because a myriad complications can take place (as illustrated by the case of Rema). But the fact that the breathing or crying constitutes the first independent (of mother) movement of the child may be taken as the basis for determining the time of birth. That should provide an initial guarantee that the delivery is successful at the very least. I hope I am making some sense here. Let me know your thoughts. regards Hari The New Search - Faster.
