Guest guest
||Om Brihaspataye Namah|| Dear Gurus and learned members, Can anyone give the procedures along with mantras (transcribed into English) for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi the coming Sunday? I searched on the internet but could not find out a clear and systematic procedure except for one very large (~30 MB) mpeg file available on <www.panchangam.com>. What to do if an idol/required items cant be bought? Will a paper printout of Ganesha do for the purpose? And how to immerse in places where there is no well or beach nearby? I would be most grateful if someone could explain. Taking this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi 2003. regards Hari

Guest guest
Dear Mr. Hari, The day before celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, i.e. tommorrow, one has to observe fast, only with fruits and milk, or atleast just with one meal during the day. On Sunday Morning, you can finish the fast and praise lord Ganesha using the following slokas: Recite the Ganesh sloka: Gajananam Bootha Ganaathi Sevitham Gabitha Jambu palasaara Pakshitham Uma sutham Soga Vinaasa Kaaranam Namaami Vigneshwara Paada Pankajam || (recite each of the following 21 times offering flower to the deity each time): 1. OM Vakrathunda Mahaakaaya Koti Surya Samaprabha Avignam Kurumedeva Sarva Kaaryeshu Sarvadha || 2. Om Eka Dandaya Vidmahee Vakrathundaaya Deemahi Thanno dandif Prajodayath || (f silent in dandif) Then the palahar or offerings can be made to the deity: 1. I don't know the exact name, but this looks like a smaller/darker version of Chick peas - you can soak it overnight and crack mustard seeds and add it to the boiled grams with salt. 2. The most auspicious 'Modakams' should be offered - the outer is made of rice flour - mix rice flour, tiny amount of salt and water and make into a dough that you can make into the outer of the modakam. Use brown sugar/Jaggery, add little water and melt the jaggery into a sticky consistency, add Elaichi and scraped coconut and when the mix becomes firm, remove from stove, take small marble sizes and keep inside an outer made of the rice flour, and cover the inner coconut/jaggery completely with the outer rice flour (made as a thin cover around the center) and boil in the cooker. This modakam is Ganesha's favorite and is symbolic of the universe, just as coconut is symbolic of the universe, and the modakam is also in the shape of a tiny coconut. After offering the above to Ganesha, the fast can be broken. White flowers are the most auspicious for Ganesha, so also is the Durva grass also known as Bermuda/Turf grass. At the temples, they conduct a homa and offer the modakams prepared as stated above to the homa, if you can make 21/51/101 modakams, and take it to the temple for the homa, it is very good also. Guest guest
I just realized on last sloka: After reciting slokas 1, 2 given in the earlier posts, this sloka should be recited also 21 times, also offering flowers each time: 3. OM SHREEM HREEM KLEEM KLOUM GUM GANAPATHAYE VARA VARATHA SARVA JANAMME VASAMAANAYA SWAHA || With Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to All, Jayashree vedic astrology, "Jayashree" <jayashree_ravi@m...> wrote: > Dear Mr. Hari, > > The day before celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi, i.e. tommorrow, one has > to observe fast, only with fruits and milk, or atleast just with one > meal during the day.
