Guest guest
Dear Chandrashekharji, Pranam Although I haven't been following the posts on Jup capable of destroying the house it is in, your last post made me want to ask a query which I have always wanted to ask. 1. How many days did it take for Krishna to speak ( recite or whichever is the right word) the Gita. 2. Which sage authored Gita and when was it authored, I mean after how long after the incident in Kurukshetra ( place where Gita was told) I hope I dont harm anyones feelings by asking these questions, pls mind my english I wasnt sure which word to use "recite, speak or discourse" of Gita so as it not to be disrespectful to anyone. Guest guest
Dear Sunil, Mahabharata is an epic said to have been written by Veda Vyasa . How many days after the war is not very certain as antiquity of Mahabharata , itself, is a subject under research, However it is generally assumed to be more than 3000B.C. by some. The knowledge contained in Gita was revealed to Arjuna on day one of the Mahabharata. The entire war lasted 18days(if my memory serves me right. So obviously the Gita revelation should have been a few hours and not days. There is nothing wrong if you say speak because the Adhyaaya begin with "-Uvaach" indicating spoken by the person e.g. Saanjay Uvach, Bhagvaana Uvaach etc. Recital would , probably not be proper word when refered to Krishna as one recites that which is already written. The ancient knowledge had been fotgotten and revealed by the Lord. It is also said that the Gita that we read today was revived by Aadi Shankaracharya. The reason for the ambiguity is that in days bygone scriptures were passed on from one generation to another by commiting them to memory by verbal recital. Hope this helps. Chandrashekhar.
