I found your analysis on combustion very useful.

 

I have Sun conjunct Mars in Aries in 3rd with an proximity of approx 1

deg. This does seem strong in my chart as Sun is exalted and Mars is in

its Moolatrikona. My younger brother fits the profile exactly, but what

attributes does this combination have for me as potentials that I can

build on.

Dear Mag,

Combustion is an astronomical phenomena, creates on account of

planets' close proximity to the Sun. The extent of closeness varies

for different planets.

 

Moon => - 12 degrees

Mars => +/- 17 degrees

Merc.=> +/- 14 degrees

Jupi => +/- 15 degrees

Venu => +/- 10 degrees

Satu => +/- 15 degrees

Rahu and Ketu donot combust, but cause eclipse.

 

Here it should be born in mind that these figures are not

universally accepted. The Moon is considered weak when it is behind

12 degrees of the Sun. i.e. Amavasya. Moreover, in case of

retrogration the interval of proximity is norrowed down. Roughly

speaking, a planet within +/-5 degrees range of Sun called complete

combust, within 10 degrees called partially combust, and out of 15

degrees called out of combustion.

 

According to Bepin Behari, the combustion of a planet is neither an

unmitigated evil, not does it completely obliterate its special

relationship spoils the sensivity of the individual. A combust Venus

may destroyss marital happiness, provided other factors do so. On

the other hand, the combustion of Mercury is assumed auspicious, as

it creates desirable Budha-Adhitya Yoga, lead to intellengence and

success. A combust Jupiter makes the individual profane, and

transgressing well established social norms. A combust Mars produces

a man filled with great enthusism and capable of performing many

chivalrous deeds. A combust Saturn yields sorrow, fall and it debase

the status, provided receiving no benefic aspect or argala.

 

While, it is also assumed that, if Sun plays a role of functional

benefic in chart, its combustion with other functional benefics

produces no harm, but sometimes results in yogas. This notion also

supported by horoscopes of many notable nativities.
