You are absolutely right. I hope I did not give the impression that I consider these scriptural views to be "unquestionably final". I simply chose to give them the "benefit of doubt", as long as there is scope for doing so. I sincerely believe that the picture painted by archaelogy etc regarding the evolution of human civilization is entirely unreliable. Thus I give the benefit of doubt to Hindu scriptural views, while still recognizing their fallibility. Hindu scriptures are full of so much meaning at various levels. They serve as works of history (though some may not quite agree) and, at the same time, as metaphorical expressions of higher spiritual truths (including astrological concepts) in simple terms. It is time scholars stopped looking at them as fancy works of art. They are so full of meaning and depth.
