The Computer Emergency Response Team of the Indian government has imposed a

blanket ban on citing postings in the 'kynhun' group. The move

follows 's refusal to heed a government order to close down the group,

which carries postings by the secessionist group Hynniewtrep National

Liberation Council, one of 14 organisations banned in the country.

This is the first ban under the CERT-In law.

It seems the blanket ban followed the inability of ISPs to block out individual sites.

Is CERT's reaction to block out all of for a low traffic site (82

members and 33 postings a year) out of place in a country trying to be an IT

superpower. Should bureaucratic urge to control be allowed to stifle the

popular medium the Internet has become.
