Guest guest
Dear Ann The pituitary is indeed in the midline but is further back than "between the brows". It is more or less in the middle of the skull in both directions. You can locate it by imagining a line between the outer canthus (outer edge of the eye ) and the external auditory meatus (the entrance to the ear passsage). The pituitary is about an inch above this line. The pineal gland is about 2 inches behind this at the back of the third ventricle. The pineal is truly a third eye, as in some lower vertebrates it develops a rudimentary lens and retina. Its hormone melatonin affects us in many ways and it is not unlikely that in the past had a function of '6th sense' that we have lost today It controls the sleep/wake cycles and circadian rhythms and some thermal and immunological regulation. It has been suggested that it plays a part in tumour regulation. It plays a role in sleep, menstrual, and some psychological disorders especially those related to light and day length. Does this help in finding its karaka?
