Guest guest
Isn't the middle finger also connected to our sense of hearing? My student was raped at gunpoint years ago, and she still is traumatized. Her feet and middle fingers ache. I will ask her more about the pain in her feet. Also, can you recommend a book with this information? Thanks, Nirmal Kundalini Yoga, Books, Videos and DVDs on Kundalini Yoga, Meditation and Mantra CDs Terms of Service. Guest guest
Dear Nirmal: For the feet you can consult any book on reflexology for general info on areas of the feet that relate to organs in the body. For the fingers I only remember Gurudev Singh's healing lecture to us so I don't know where it might be published. Thumb = ego 1st finger = wisdom Middle finger = emotion (don't wear rings on the finger) Ring finger = healing Little finger = communication (this would be related to hearing I would guess) I hesitate to connect the pains to the rape without being in direct contact with your student, although it does sound very plausible. Guest guest
Sat Nam Nirmal, has your student undergone counselling to deal with her trauma? Proper trauma counselling or therapy would be highly recommended if she's still carrying the trauma with her. Certainly being in a constant state of fear can contribute to chronic pain conditions for a number of reasons to long to go into here. If the pain is somehow a result of this trauma then dealing with the underlying fear and trauma would be important in dealing with the pain effectively. It's tempting to see the body as a symbol or in symbolic terms - and it can certainly be very useful to do so. However it's also useful to be practical, after all yoga is a useful practice and our bodies are a part of the mundane world Sometimes sore feet are a result of bad shoes, walking on hard surfaces all the time, any physical activity that involves bouncing or landing hard on the feet. We can do the same activity for years without pain and then when the accummulated activity results in pain we don't make the connection because it "seems" to come out of nowhere. Does your student work on a computer a lot? This could contribute to finger pain. It can be along process that requires a lot of patience and being observant and conscious on the client's part to discover what's contributing to a chronic pain condition. Certainly your student would really need to see a professional (be it a podiatrist or an acupuncturist) to be able to really know what's going on with her. All any of us on the list can do is guess. It's great to be able to help people but when we run up against the limitations of our own knowledge (and we all have these limitations) sometimes the most honest thing we can do is say "I don't know" and then refer the student/patient/client to someone who does know. This keeps our teaching honest, is essential for anyone who works as a healer, and means that we respect the healers other to "first do no harm". On a very practical level it means that physical causes for the pain have been investigated properly...it's fine to work on the soul and the emotional body but if the underlying cause is physical that won't do much good! blessings and respect ovasoul Kundalini Yoga, Books, Videos and DVDs on Kundalini Yoga, Meditation and Mantra CDs Visit your group " Terms of Service. Guest guest
Like an agopunturist I can say that the feet could be in relation with fear (through kidneys and water element), while the middle finger is connected to the sympatic nervous system (through fire and pericardium). Naturally they are only theoretical observations... M.
