Dear all:

Another look at this conversation we were having a while back.

Osho relates this story of a Japanese master Ekido.

Ekido was playing the gong, fully alert, when he missed a beat as he looked

at a beautiful girl passing by. The master hit him on the head. The

student's heart stopped beating and he died. According to Osho, Ekido knew

the student was about to die and he was right there behind his student in

case he needed to act. When the student lost awareness as he looked at the

girl, Ekido struck him to bring him back to alertness. The student died

alert.

Being in the moment is where our power lies, being alert, seeing reality as

it is and making decisions from that place and entering the next moment from

that privileged place of having been in the moment a moment before.

That's why we chant Ong Namo Gurudev Namo before doing yoga.

That's why we chant Ad Gurray Nameh, Jugad Gurray Nameh, Sat Gurray Nameh,

Siri Gurudev-a Nameh before entering the mundane world where danger could be

lurking around as we drive a car, as we fly in an airplane, as we cross a

street, as we help someone, etc etc.

So yes, we all act like this master. We may not be conscious of what we do.

But somehow we all get struck by life to awaken us. We have to trust that

when we get hurt by someone uncaring, or a situation, the abundance of the

universe is behind giving that moment an opportunity for the hurt to be this

moment of alertness we have been needing --- unless of course we prefer to

resent the gesture of the uncaring person. And then we miss out on the

opportunity for alertness offered to us.

Blessings,
