Guest guest
An easy question: When assessing the influence of transiting planets on a persons birth chart do you use an ephemeris for the city of birth or for the place where that person is currently residing? For example, if I was born in New York and am currently living in London, do I use an ephemeris for New York or for London to work out the times of transiting planets influencing my birth chart? Can anyone explain WHY?
Guest guest
||Namah Shivaaya|| Dear Nilesh / Starryguy, Consider the concept of Prashna...... the moment an Astrologer gets a query, a chart is pictured. This is for that moment of time, at that location. There has been discussion as to where the chart should be (i.e. of the querist) or of the actual time (as opposed to a letter dated a certain day, or an e-mail sent at a time, but opened later, etc.). The light of the Stars shine on the Astrologer, and requires an interpretaion in that environment. Hence, when examing transits, take a look at where you are, if examining your own chart. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Namaste Nitin OK, so the current location should be used. This makes sense because the natal chart is effectively a transit chart for when you were born which remains fixed. This is your karmic blueprint which stays with you for life. This is carried with you wherever you go. Therefore the planetary effects for your current location will directly influence your fixed natal chart to trigger various events. However some may argue that your birthplace is fixed and that transiting planets over your birthplace will influence your condition regardless of where you are ( ? ) I have found that the positions of planetary transits will be in the same rashi for a particular time throughout the world if the appropriate zonal time changes are considered, so it really doesn't matter for general interpretation. To be consistent in the application of jyotish principles it is sensible to use the current location for examining transits and constructing prashna charts. Thanks for confirming what I thought was the answer to my orginal question. I have posted a new message regarding Prashna & Birth Times to address some of the issues you raised in your reply.
