Guest guest
Dear Chandrashekhar ji, The undersigned would beg to differ with you on the point of profession ofBrahmins as actors and singers. 1) All Ramlilas, Bhavais were and are performed by NAYAK subcaste of Brahmins in Gujarat. 2) Composing/singing of Harikathas was strictly reserved for Brahmins. These people are known as MANA BHATTAS. This opportunity is also used to state that not only the above but, Vaidyas, Cooks also come under perview of Jupiterian portfolio. Guest guest
Dear???, Acting and singing for money and for praise of god without seeking anything for the service rendered are two different things. If in Gujarat some Brahmans have made that as their profession it does not mean that it is per shastras. Generally when one performs in Ramlila it is not for earning moneys but as you state that appears to be practice in Gujarat. If it is so it would not by itself make it the duty or profession of a Brahman. Of course if you one born to Brahman parents as Brahman without reference to his work, perhaps we have a different view point about looking at scriptures. Veda Vyasa said "janmani jayate shudrah karmaNi bhavati brahmanaH" and it to that Brahman that Jyotish refers to when it gives certain qualities to Planets. I have not seen any scriptures saying that these are the professions to be followed by Brahmans. You perhaps have seen some such thing. Could you look at the scriptures and give a quote so that these are the professions of Brahmans? Guest guest
Respected Sir, Teaching is a portfolio of Guru. Ramleela, Manabhattas , Bhavais are all practical teaching methods. Who ever practices Teaching is a Brahmin/teacher . Rules are formed for contemporary times and practices. Additions and subtractions are to be made from time to time to retain the meaning/usefulness of such rules. Shastras as they were , may not offer all answers. As written in another posting, A guru gives you a tool, or a seed and makes you able to fashion out something useful from that. Verbatim following of rules which may not convey full meaning can be counter productive. Guest guest
Dear??? I thought the topic was about professions of Brahmins. You quote a lot from scriptures. Perhaps you may like to refer to manusmriti to find out what are duties of a Brahmin. They certainly not singing or dancing for making a livelihood as in the case of the native of the horoscope under discussions, whose source of livelihood has been singing Love songs and not Ramayana. Chandrashekhar. nameisego wrote: Respected Sir, Teaching is a portfolio of Guru.
