Guest guest
Hello Dhananjay: I'm giving you the benefit of doubt that your question was a serious one and you weren't pulling my leg. Assuming this, here is my answer: In our solar system, all objects orbit around the Sun. When Astronauts go up in the Space, they're orbiting around the Earth. While in orbit, they can easily tell where exactly AROUND the Earth are they orbiting. If they're over India in orbit, they can look up Moon's rashi at that point on the Earth. Likewise, if they're over USA in orbit, they can look up Moon's rashi at that point. As I've said earier, other planets take more than 3 days to orbit ONE rashi so these rashis won't change irrespective of where the space craft is orbiting. Now, say the astronauts land on a celestial body rather than orbit the Earth. In this case, the astronauts have only landed on the Moon so far and the Moon orbits around the Earth as well. There is priciple in Physics that all celetial bodies orbit ALONG with the objects located on its surface. Using this principle, one can easily tell where exactly one is located while sitting on the Moon using Earth as a point of reference. Offcourse, the Earth revolves on its axis and is also revolving around the Sun, the Moon is revolving on its axis so the calculations get a little complex. However, if you've attended a good Indian engineering school, you can easily figure out this calculation. I guess this answers your question. Now, you'll have more questions as to what Rashi is the Moon transiting through if an astronaut is on Mars, well you can ask that question when Man lands on Mars and if I'm alive, I'll try to answer it then.
