During this morning's walk Prabhupada again criticized the local farmers for

growing tobacco rather than grains, cotton, and other necessities. He said it

was a symptom of degradation to grow cash crops instead of food.

"Now eat cash! So cash is also paper. So what is the use of laboring so hard?

You eat paper. Paper is available. Growing tea, growing tobacco, growing jute,

and no grains. And grain for the animal. So that animal, as soon as it becomes

fatty, send it to the slaughterhouse and then finish business. Smoke, eat meat,

drink, and be happy! So much land, but it is producing tobacco, which we are

prohibiting: no smoking."

The talk of crops also brought up the question of prasadam distribution at

these programs. Prabhupada is very keen to see that sumptuous prasadam is given

out whenever we hold a gathering. He said that otherwise ordinary people will

not be attracted.

Although lecturing very strongly every day, he is aware that what he says

inevitably will go over the heads of most people. Therefore he told the local

devotees, "Then accept this program, distribution of prasadam. Then we can go

everywhere, whole day program -- kirtana and distribution. Simply dry

philosophy, what will people understand?"
