Guest guest
Dear List members While following thread on jupiter in 2nd house, I observed few interesting issues concerning Jupiter and 2nd house. Typically, Jupiter is considered dhana karka, Here, i have little different observations: a. jupiter being natural benefic (somya) planet (like venus) is good, when it influences 2nd house by aspect or positioning. The primary condition to evaluate here is, that Jupiter must not be temporary malefic (ashubha) for its lordship and it must not be afflicted. b. in modern era, jupiter has little functional role for wealth except being a somya planet. In past era, natural knowledge used to be major source of wealth in kingdoms and Jupiter being gyanakarka, used to be significator of wealth. Rahu/ketu, saturn, venus, mars has more functional role for wealth and luxury in modern times. Sage Parashara used two different words- somya and shubha and both do not imply same meaning. Somya can be ashubha OR krur graha can be shubha for respective lagnas. hence, Jupiter is Somya but not necessarily shubha. Likewise, mars is krur but can be shubha or ashubha. By definition, Jupiter will be somya in terms of its nature for its functional role of shubha or ashubha. We must not mix up with natural role and functional role of jupiter. Coming to retrogression and its exaltation/debilitation, these are more indicative of planet's inherent strength as well, the past life's continuity wrt specific planet. It must not be confused with its ability to deliver good or bad results. Yes, for its strength, it may deliver better or worse results. Likewise, there are other balas (esp directional strength), for results read with D charts, avasthas etc. Retreogression needs to be dealt little more differently, as it implies more of results relating to illusive/hidden resultants. I tried to apply the above norms in my limited experience in astrology with reasonable success. Experienced astrologers may enlighten us on the above. regards/Prafulla Gang
