Meaning of Subrahmanya

Dear friends,

What is the meaning of "Subrahmanya", one of the many names of Lord

Skanda? Is it composed of the root words "Su" + "Brahma", indicating

that He is the creator, which would fit in nicely with His role as

the giver of children? Or it is "Su" + "Braahmanyam", i.e. loosely

translating, the "Of the Good Brahmin" or Guru? Or it is "Subhra"

+ "Man", indicating His pure mind?

Or, is there another meaning of this name altogether?

Thanks for your guidence,

Venkatarama Sreelatha

Dear Sreelatha ji,

I have read it to be the second meaning, ie, 'Su' + 'Brahmanya',

which denotes one who is pleasant to Brahmins (one who likes

Brahmins), referring to the ideology of Brahminism here.

Best regards,
