Guest guest
Hi all, ADHD seems to be viewed differently in India from how it is seen in USA. Thom Hartmann views ADHD traits as hunter traits that were very useful to survive in ancient societies. They are still useful in some societies like places in Africa. Hunters are fast runners too,and I am a very fast runner. I ran track in high school. I am very quick. Maybe my great speed comes from my ADHD. I don't think it has anything to do with me being part Black. I wonder if there is a connection between ADHD/Hunter traits and athletes that have great speed like Quarterback Michael Vick of Atlanta Falcons. I like his book too. I want to get his book, THE EDISON GENE next. That book is about ADHD too. He wrote numerous ADHD books, and none of them focus on it as a disorder. Here is something from Thom Hartmann's ADHD site Thom Hartmann's son was told that he has ADHD,his brain was somehow damaged, and he needed Ritalin like Diabetes need insulin at the age of 12. Thom Hartmann disagreed. He felt that ADHD is not a Ritalin deficiency disease. http://www.thomhartmann.com/home-add.shtml Science Validates Hartmann's Hunter/Farmer Hypothesis Irvine, Calif., Jan. 8, 2002 -- A variant form of a gene associated with attention- deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) indicates that the disorder is a recent affliction and may once have helped humans thrive and survive, according to a UCI College of Medicine study. The human gene study, which appears in the Jan. 8 issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, suggests that behavior now considered inappropriate in a classroom may be related to behavior that once helped humans overcome their environment... "Our data show that the creation of the 7R allele was an unusual, spontaneous mutation, which became an advantage for humans," Moyzis said. "Because it was an advantage, the gene became increasingly prevalent. This is very different from other genes that predispose to genetic disorders, where the mutations are detrimental. We believe this helps explain why a disorder with such a strong genetic association is so common today." This is from page 78 to 79 in Thom Hartmann's Complete Guide To ADHD: In India there appears to be a very different view of ADD than what is conventional in the United States. During the monsoon season of 1993, the week of the Hyderabad earthquake, I took a 12- hour train ride halfway across the subcontinent to visit an obscure town near the Bay of Bengal. In the train compartment with me were two Indian businessman and a physician, and we had plenty of time to talk as the countryside flew by from sunrise to sunset. Curious about how they viewed ADD, I said, "Are you familiar with the personality type where people seem to crave stimulation but have a hard time staying with one thing? They hop from career to career, and sometimes even from relationship to relationship, and never seem to settle down?" "Ah we know this type well" one of the men said, the other 2 men nodding in agreement. "What do you call it?" I asked. "Very holy," he said, "These are old souls, near the end of their karmic cycle." Again the other two nodded agreement, perhapsa bit more vigorously in response to my startled look. "Yes," the physican said, taking his turn in the conversation. "In our religion, we believe that the purpose of reincarnation is to eventually free oneself from worldly entanglement and desire. In each lifetime we experience certain lessons, until finally we are free of this earth and can merge into the oneness of what you would call God. When a soul is very close to the end of those thousands of incarnations, he must take a few lifetimes and do many, many things, to clean up the little threads left over from his previous lifetimes." "This is a man very close to becoming enlightened," the first businessman added. "We have great respect for such individuals, although their lives may be difficult." The other businessman raised a finger and interjected; "But it is the difficulties of such lives that purify the soul." The others nodded in agreement. "In America we consider this a psychiatric disorder" I said. All three looked startled, then laughed. "In America, you consider our most holy men, our yogis and swamis, to be crazy people too," said the physician with sadness in his voice. "So it is with different cultures. We live in different worlds." Many people who are shocked when they first discover that not everybody "sees" (or "hears" or "feels") the world the same way they do. It's a fact, however, that we each have our own particular ways of experiencing life, and most people have single sensory system upon which they most heavily rely. People who have a different perception of the world from ours have interesting and often valuable lessons to teach us. Particularly when we understand our differences, they can help us expand our experience of life in ways that may not otherwise have been available to us. I am inattentive type ADHD. I guess that I am far better off living in India than here in USA. Some people even think that I look Indian. heheheeheheh Here is something from my Vedic Astrology report In your mind you think of spiritual life as real and true and so you know that material life is not the aim of life. This comes gradually as you get older, as material expectations are one by one ruled out as unfulfilling. Therefore, gradually through life, you spend more of your time and energy towards serving good causes. Also, in an attempt to sort things out in this transition, you become restless, and sometimes try to spend for pleasure, only to feel increased frustration. Overall, you should do well because of your sincere approach to life. Areas to try to prevent disease troubles would include the feet, eyes and private parts. Ketu is in 12. Ketu has a psychologically disturbing impact here, and often leads you into contact with the denizens of "the other world." Cancer is in 12, and Ketu is in 12. I would also look at Rahu,Mars and the 12th house in general in Vedic Astrology. In Western Astrology, I would take a look at Uranus,Neptune,Mars, and Pluto. The reason why I brought up Pluto is the great energy and hyperfocus that many ADHDers have. I brought up Mars because of high energy too. I feel that strong Mars-Uranus energy is significant for ADHDers and athletes. Athletes are often injured in accidents. That makes sense that Mars-Uranus would be involved. I have Sun semisquare Mars/Uranus, and I was definitely accident-proned,restless,quick,and I was athletic when it came to running track and swimming. BTW.....Because view of ADHD is relative in different cultures, ADHD is not necessarily a negative thing. Therefore, people with ADHD or hunter traits don't necessarily have afflicted planets to represent their ADHD. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison could have been gifted because of their Dyslexia and ADHD and not in spite of them. That goes with their Dyslexia too. We ADHDers and Dyslexics think outside the box. There is nothing wrong with that. But a lot of people that aren't ADHD nor Dyslexic want to look down at us because they don't understand how our minds work because they don't know personally. I feel that's the same with my fellow astrologers who aren't ADHD nor Dyslexic like myself. I feel that it is my ADHD and Dyslexic related 3-dimensional picture thinking, visualization, intuition, and thinking outside the box abilities that help me a good astrologer, poet, creative writer, and dancer. It will help me a good massage therapist and holistic health practitioner. We ADHDers and Dyslexics aren't superior to anybody but nor are we inferior either.
