Guest guest
Dear Vijay-ji, > I am glad to be any help. I also have a lot of data for several > companies (date of incorporation & first trade) as well as several e-> books(most of these are old and unavailable) related to financial > astrology - so if you need more data & references, please let me know. Would you by any chance have the first trade data of Broadcom Coproration (Nasdaq ticker: BRCM)? I work for Broadcom and would love to study its stock chart. > My teacher(RGKrishnan, who was a student of CSPatel) also mentions > the use of solar ingress charts(sun's entry into each rashi) as well > as lunation charts(new moon) for the capital of the country> (apparently this is used a lot in mundane astrology). In addition he Yes, solar and lunar new year charts are useful. I suggest paying special attention to the New Moon chart in Libra (Kartika Sukla Pratipada chart, i.e. day after Diwali). Libra is the natual sign of business. It is interesting to note that some parts of India where business is strong celebrate new year on this day. Compress dasas to the duration between two Kartika Sukla Pratipadas (compress one year of Vimsottari dasa to 3 tithis). It will give a good idea of how economy and business will do during the year. > Dear PVR-ji,> > Please also refer to Message 1161, where I had posted some questions > about SCD. I was not sure if you had read them while you were on > vacation.> > Best wishes,> Vijay As such I read only a small selection of the mails on this list and hence was not planning to read the mails from the last week when I was away. But I did read message 1161 as you specifically referred to it. > Dear PVR ji,> > 1)In your calculations of the SC Mahadasas, what do you take as the > duration of a year? Some people indicate that actual period of a > solar revolution is to be taken whereas others use a few days shorter > than that. I use the period of exact solar revolution. One year is the period in which Sun's longitude sweeps 360 degrees. > Also what do you take as a period for a month- is it duration of a > year/12, sidereal month(27.32 solar days) or synodic month(29.53 > solar days). For me, Sun's longitude is the measure of time. The period in which Sun's longitude traverses by 30 degrees is a month (antardasa of SC dasa). One particular month may be 29.9 civil days and another month may be 30.5 civil days. I don't care about the length of the month in terms of civil days or hours and minutes. That can vary. I only care about the longitude traversed by Sun. It should be 30 degrees. Similarly, each pratyantardasa of SC dasa is a period in which Sun's longitude traverses 2.5 degrees. > 2)Can you mention some reference books where the topic of astakavarga > is provided in much detail(I currently have a book by RGKrishnan who > was a student of Chandulal Patel and I am getting one by Vinay > Aditya, who I believe was a student of Shree KNRao-ji and which is > widely quoted as one of the best books on this subject) The book "Secrets of Ashtakavarga" by Dr. P.S. Sastri is a good one. Dr. B.V. Raman's book has an old-fashioned presentation (i.e. no fluff and 'hungama' like in modern books), but covers all the ground nicely. It is my favorite book. I haven't seen the book by Vinay Aditya and so cannot comment. Of course, if you ask me, the best reference is BPHS, if you can read and understand Sanskrit. I wonder if the modern ashtakavarga authors and BPHS translators have done justice to the chapters on ashtakavarga in BPHS. It doesn't seem like that to me based on my reading of BPHS. I haven't seen the teachings of Sri R.G. Krishnan, but I do have a book on "Ashtakavarga" by Sri Chandulal S Patel and C.A. Subramania Aiyar. It is overall a good book, but I strongly disagree with one basic principle advanced by Patel and Aiyer in that book. They suggest making ashtakavarga based on bhava kundali (chalit chakra) rather than rasi chart. This is the most illogical suggestion I have ever read on ashtakavarga. Let me explain why. Ashtakavarga is based on taking all planets as references instead of just lagna. Then what is the point in casting a bhava chakra just based on the longitude of lagna? Suppose lagna is at 29 deg in Virgo and Sun is at 1 deg in Libra. Patel and Aiyer take Sun in the 1st house (instead of 2nd) from lagna, when casting ashtakavarga. One could support this, as lagna and Sun are apart by just 2 degrees. However, suppose Jupiter is at 29 deg in Virgo, Sun is at 1 deg in Libra and lagna is at 15 deg in Taurus. Then Sun will be taken to be in the 2nd house from Jupiter by them and not in the first house (because bhava chakra is cast only from lagna and not Jupiter). This is inconsistent. If Sun at 1Li00 is in the 1st house from lagna at 29Vi00, shouldn't Sun at 1 Li00 be in the 1st house from Jupiter at 29Vi00 too? If one takes just the rasi chart and finds bhavas by counting signs, that is a consistent approach. Instead, if one casts eight bhava chakras from various references using the longitudes of lagna and seven planets, that too is a consistent approach (though it results in some other problems when preparing SAV!). The approach of Patel and Aiyer is "neither here nor there". I find it very illogical. I personally find bhavas by counting signs. Each sign is a bhava for me. I will be open to other ideas, but not to treating lagna one way and other references another way. That is illogical. Moreover, I honestly feel that the mistake of most scholars is that they take only the rasi chart. Parasara explained some methods of timing events related to father using the ashtakavarga of Sun. In a previous chapter, he said that Dwadasamsa should be seen for father and mother. In that case, isn't it simply implied that ashtakavarga iof Sun in Dwadasamsa should be used? How can we assume that ashtakavarga of rasi chart alone should be used? Some scholars think that ashtakavarga should be found for only the rasi chart and that there is no basis for finding ashtakavarga of divisional charts. I cannot agree. Secondly, one should take a calm look at the verses of Parasara. What do the "good" places given for various planets from various references mean? In Sun's ashtakavarga, for example, Sun is said to be benefic in 5th, 6th, 9th and 11th from Jupiter. Is Sun's ashtakavarga supposed to show from how many references Sun is benefic in each sign or how many planets are benefic from Sun in each sign? If Sun is benefic in 5th from Jupiter, does it mean that Jupiter benefits from that placement or Sun? All the authors I have read have approached this issue in the same manner, but I have my doubts. Like I said earlier, I am not yet ready to go public with my researches. I can only say one thing. If our understanding of ashtakavarga is perfect, all the sodhya pinda based principles of timing given by Parasara will work perfectly. Take a honest look at it and see if they work perfectly based on the teachings of any ashtakavarga book. The key to solving these issues is to understand the definition of ashtakavarga. Why is Mercury benefic in 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th from Jupiter? Why is Jupiter benefic in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th and 11th from Mercury? What is the meaning of it? Sun is the soul, Moon is the mind, Jupiter is the intellect, Mercury is the learning ability and so on. In other words, Mercury in chart shows the internal student (learning ability) and Jupiter in a chart shows the internal teacher (intellect). The 6th, 8th and 12th from Jupiter shows the overcoming of obstacles, working hard and giving by the intellect (internal teacher). When the internal student challenges the internal teacher and prompts hard work, isn't it desirable? When the internal teacher works hard and gives, who benefits? Teacher or student? Each number in the ashtakavarga definition has a higher meaning that can be understood intuitively, using these analogies. It is not a random allocation. I tried to throw some light on this at an SJC workshop last year, at Edison. I will share my researches into ashtakavarga in future conferences/articles/books. The right time has to come for it. I honestly feel that the teachings of current books are superficial and slightly erroneous too. I will not answer any further questions on this until the right time comes. > 3) I downloaded your horalite but I am unable to get it to calculate > the SC Dasas. Is this feature available only in the full blown > version? It is only in my personal version and not even in the currently available full blown version. Before I give it to others, I need to add an option to start antardasas from mahadasa sign (instead of mahadasa lord), as some people may prefer that. I will perhaps give it in the next release of the full blown version. The next release will be made after the Mumbai conference of SJC. It will include new Kalachakra dasa options for researchers. > Thank you and with best wishes,> -Vijay May Jupiter's light shine on us, Narasimha -------------------------------Free Jyotish lessons (MP3): http://vedicastro.home.comcast.netFree Jyotish software (Windows): http://www.VedicAstrologer.org-------------------------------
