To Narasimhji, Krithiji and all scholars; a doubt on exalted+ retro= debilated

Dear Krithiji and all,

I would like to clear a doubt which arose after reading your

analysis on my chart. Hope you wont mind.

You wrote "Chara AK Mercury is well placed in D1 and D9. Its vargotma

also.But its Exalted and Retro,so it gives the result

of Neecha graha."

I have heard many people agreeing that exalted and retro planet

gives the result of Neecha .

Now my doubt is

A planet is exalted only in a range of degrees only. In my case

since it is Mercury, if I am correct, mercury is exalted in the 1st

15 degrees of Virgo Rasi. If the planet has crossed the range in

which it is exalted (in my case Mercury is in 29 degrees), should we

still consider it as exalted and apply the rule exalted+retro =

neecha?

I hope all scholars will share their views on this.

Namaste !

Your question is valid.My answer is,the neecha effect of a planet

which is exalted and retro would depends upon it strength of

exaltation.If it is very closer to its exaltation degree then its

neecha effect will be more.

In your case,your AK mercury is exalted & retro D1 and D9 also.So

its something like "Neecha Vargothama".In my opinion planets in

neecha vargothama does not gives good results.

In some parts of tamil nadu there is a opinion that planets in

neecha vargothama bless native with good life.No comments on this.

Only Gurus and experienced astrologers shall guide us in this

situation.I hope some gurus and learned scholors throws more light on

this.

Respected Sir,

I had severe stomach problems not within 2 days, but within

3 months of my birth. I had severe gastroentritis. According to my

mother, my whole body changed to blue color and was near to death.

Even the doctor who checked me told my mother not to have any hope

and that I was going to die. But my uncle compelled my mother to

shift me immediately to a good hospital from where I recovered. At

that time, in that hospital, many babies died of the same disease and

I was one of the few who survived.

( I am pretty sure of this as I mother often repeats this incident to

me)

Can you please tell me how you came to this conclusion?

Dear Sir,

mercury in Rasi chart is in swakshetra,my case being in 29 degree

(taking 1-15-Exalted, 15-25- Moola trikona and 25-30 Swakshetra) but

exalted in Navamsha only, how will we consider Mercury for general

interpretation - as exalted or as just in swakshetra?

Did you take the mercury in my chart as exalted becuase it is

within 25-30 degree in navamsha? I am asking becuase i donno to find

in which degree is the planet in Navamsha.

Second doubt is,

Supposing that Mercury is exalted and retro so equal to debilated,

can we apply ' Neecha bhanga wrt Lagna' since Mercury is in kendra to

Lagna?

If any scholars know the answers plz help me.

One of the first things I do on seeing a retrograde planet I'm interested in, is

to ascertain how close or otherwise it is to getting direct again. At the very

end of the retrogression cycle, planets virtually halt, especially the

slow-moving outer ones. That stage is in fact the most powerful because there's

a kind of geo-stationary effect. Make sure you check that one too.

Make sure to take this opinion with a pinch of skepticism, because there's no

known astrological basis for the supposition. Merely my saying so means not a

Dear Energumen/Jyoti

The original verse is from Phala Deepika wherein it is said that

debilitated planets when retro can become powerful as exalted

planets. I have not seen a sloka supporting the converse statement.

Namaste Jyothi,

There is enough complication in Retrograde Status in lself, over &

above if we assume Debiliation due to it's Exalted+Retrograde status

and further to search for the 'Neecha Bhanga' of thus derived

debiliation will make our logic & viveka budhhi go round and round

and no conclusion can be arrived

this is my personal opinion though.

Now i'll help you giving Simmilar example of yours w.r.t only

Retrograde Exalted Mercury.

Mr. Amitabh Bachhan - i don't have his chart right now but If i

trust my memory then he has 'Exalted Retrro Mercury' in 8th house

around 24 degrees.

His Mercury Major period started around 1990/91. Now if you see his

life events, There were lot of troubles for him when Mercury

started - He Failed in Politics, No major hit (By his standard) in

Movies - Then in the middle part of Me, he lost lot of fortune and

became a huge debtor around 1997 to 99 and had Complete Reversal of

Fortune.

Then Again came another reversal around 2000 and now he is even

wealthier than before & gain lot of popularity with in Last 5 years

in Antara of Rahu, Ju & Saturn which is still running.

so twice reversal for him in Mercury.

I don't know your chart. I discussed about the 'Person' (Hope you

will not say Small minds ) so that some idea is available.

you can see more of such charts & frame an opinion for your mercury.

Dear Jyothi Ji,

You said in your chart Budha is Retrograde and is in Kanya Rashi and about 29

Degs.Here Budha becomes Vargothama.Kanya rashi is our stomach and so you had

problems connected with your stomach after your birth.this is because Budha is

Vakra and exalted and it worked like Debilitated.But it is Vargothama also,so

it saved you from the danger.Budha in last degree of Kanya will be in Chitra

Nakshatra ruled by Kuja,so you had problems connected with Pitta ( heat ).

I think regarding this matter, I wrote about these Retrograde Exalted and

debilitated planets many times,may be a year back quoting from Uttara

Kalamrita,chapter 2, Shloka No.6 which states like this :

Meaning,the strength of a planet,retrograde in his motion,should be taken as

similar to that when he is in his exaltation.When a planet is in association

with a retrograde planet,the strength he gets is 1/2 a Rupa ( a measure of

strength ).When a planet occupies his exaltation Bhava ( here he has not

mentioned about the degrees),but is retrograde in his motion,he gets only his

Neechabala ie.,he is without any strength.Should a planet be retrograde while

in his debilitation Bhava,his strength is equal to that when in his

Exaltation.A planet in conjunction with another planet which is in exaltation

gets 1/2 a Rupa.When he conjoins another planet who is in his debilitation,he

gets nothing....

I hope this helps in accessing the strength of debilitated Retrograde and

exalted Retrograde planets.

Please allow me to just once more ride my planetary speed hobbyhorse. Since a

planet at various phases of retrogression would move at various speeds, with

virtual stagnation at the end of the vakra cycle, doesn't speed matter at all?

Or is it just this cut-bare dictum?
