M/s.Madhusudan & Devika,

When some one breaths his last, it is the practice

obtaining for convenience among Hindus to tie not

only the toes but also the thumbs in addition to it, a

tie is made around the face from cheek to fore-head.

Normally Prana the energy that controls the breath

leaves the body through any one of the

‘Saptha-dwaras’.It is said in the case of Saadhus who

attain jeeva Samadhi, their Prana in Dhananjaya roopa

brack opens ‘Kaphalam’on the 3rd day and reaches the

Padmakamalam.

Hence I am of the opinion that paying homage to dead

by touching the toes does not tantamount to praying

for salvations. My understanding is that touching the

toes of the deceased and showing the sign of Namaste

by joining palms is only a physical gesticulations

exhibiting respectful homage to the dead. Such an act

has no Religious sanctity at all.

Mr.Devika is requested to review / reconsider his

earlier opinion.
