Guest guest
Dear Devika Ji, Well i feel you need to rethink about framing of question as not only the dead are respected or prayed by touching the feet but same is applicable to the living person & The almighty God is respected or prayed by touching the feet. I feel it is the question of why touching Feet..only..? Regards, Sunil Kumar VaranasiDevika Dhillon <devikadhillon > wrote: Why do people touch the feet of the dead people? Guest guest
Namaskaar Sri Sunil I fully confer with your comments. To give respect is to understand greater freedom and hence responsibility in the other. We worship the Lord as it totally free. It is so free that it has no limitation and hence is all powerful (omnipotent). Being without limitation it is infinite (omnipresent). The more and individual realizes the essence of one's being, the more the person is free from limitations and reactions of the mind. We consider such persons as our elders and role models. When we touch feet, we turn humble within and seek the blessings of a person who has achieved greater heights in love and in being free. Each touching of feet symbolizes humbleness within a person (if done truthfully and not to follow a social custom only). It is the recognition of greater powers than us. These are purely my thoughts. There are people more learned and have different ideas and are welcome to share the same. Guest guest
Namaste Sunilkumar, I understand we touch the feet of an elderly or a saintly living person to show them respect and get their blessings. But from what I have recently seen, I gathered that it is something more than showing respect to a dead body. If you think that we do it to just show respect to the dead body, then do we touch the feet of a young dead child? If not, then the theory people have presented so far fails. The responses to this question have been very interesting. The question now arises, do we really know why we touch the feet of the dead? If we don't, then are we just passing this tradition from generation to generation without knowing why? Thanks for your ideas, Devika. sunilkumar varanasi <skumar_varanasi (AT) (DOT) co.in> wrote: Jai Sai Ram Dear Devika Ji, Well i feel you need to rethink about framing of question as not only the dead are respected or prayed by touching the feet but same is applicable to the living person & The almighty God is respected or prayed by touching the feet.
