Guest guest
There seems to be an interesting discussion of ayanamsas going on, specifically Chandra Hari and Lahiri. In light of that, I have uploaded a file to the Files section that pertains to the determination of the Synetic Vernal Point aka the Fagan/Bradley ayanamsa. The file "Fagan-Bradley.Zip" contains a Word document of an article that Donald Bradley wrote for American Astrology magazine in August 1964 under his pen name of Garth Allen. It clearly describes Cyril Fagan's refinement of the Lahiri ayanamsa and Bradleys later refinment of that value. It is a fascinating (if opinionated) article and has, I feel, great historical value, in as much as it appears to be the only ayanamsa among many that has been determined statistically against hundreds of mudane events. What I find especially interesting is that, for J2000, the Fagan/Bradley value is 24d 44' 11.72" and Chandra Hari's value is 24d 35' 08.79". Only 9 minutes difference. For JHora users, I believe the Fagan/Bradley calculation is in error. The program uses an offset from Lahiri of 53' 30" while the correct value is for 1 Jan 1900 is 53'00" as follows: 1900.1.1 : Lahiri: 22°27'55.19" Fagan : 23°20'55.15" Difference: 0°52'59.96" (= 53' 00") I have written Narhashima P.V.R. Rao twice about this asking for clarification but he appears to be very busy writting his book and hasn't had time to reply. So, if anyone is using Fagan/Bradley, select "Custom (user defined)" and put in 50' 00" more than Lahiri. Buz Overbeck
