Guest guest
In June 2003 she won the Girls doubles Wimbledon title alongwith her partner. 2004 was quite an eventful year for her. Following are the career highlights from WTAtour.com 2004 - On Tour, l. in 1r as WC at Hyderabad (l. 46 63 62 to eventual champion No.59 Pratt, later won doubles title w/L.Huber for first Tour title of career - became the youngest-ever Indian, male or female, to win a Tour event and the first woman from India to capture a WTA Tour title) and Casablanca (l. 57 64 62 to eventual champion No.40 Loit); on ITF Circuit, reached nine singles finals, winning at $10K ITF/Boca Raton 2-USA, $10K ITF/Campobasso-ITA, $10K ITF/Wrexham-GBR, $10K ITF/London-GBR, $25K ITF/Lagos 1-NGR and $25K ITF/Lagos 2-NGR, and six doubles finals, winning four; broke into singles Top 200 at No.193 on October 25 Her ranking jumped close to 300 places in year 2004. Another important fact: Her ankle injury keeps nagging her. If you may have noticed in the match again Sharapova, she was wearing Black ankle straightners. rediff.com reported the following about her on May 19, 2005: Daughter of a Hyderabad-based builder, Mirza showed early promise in tennis after a switch from swimming as a six-year-old. Her natural forehand and all-out aggression are unusual among Indian women tennis players who have in the past displayed a tendency for soft serves and tame baseline rallies. Mirza's big boost came in 2002 when Indian Davis Cup player Leander Paes took her on as his mixed doubles partner at the Asian Games. The duo went on to win the bronze medal. Her rise has been steady since then. She won the Wimbledon girls doubles in 2003 alongside Russian Alisa Kleybanova and stints under Brett helped her to improve both her game and fitness. She won 12 titles on the secondary ITF women's circuit, including five in 2004, before her encouraging Australian Open showing. With her ankle still on the mend, Mirza may find the going tough at the French Open. However, she has set her sights firmly on her year-end target -- breaking into the top 50. Her hobbies are Swimming and Music. She loves fast music including Rap and Hindi Remix songs. She is NOT to fond of going to parties. If I come across more information about her, I will certainly pass it to the group. Thanks and Regards BharatOn 9/7/05, M.
