Guest guest
I agree with Vir. I believe that these temple homams and other pujas carry an intrinsic value; the thing is to connect with it. If you are not in India, and if you feel the need to pay homage to a particular temple deity at a certain time, then I say, go for it. I have done it before; and I am very strongly convinced of their effects. The secret, I think, is to "be there," mentally at least. Just as with Mantras, the Japa carries a certain intrinsic value even if your mind is not well-focused and your concentration poor. After all, one of the benefits of Japa is correcting such deficiencies. As your concentration and involvement in the Mantra grow, so will the benefits. It's the same with these paid pujas. Chances are, the temple priests have the location, skills, materials, and accuracy that we lack as individuals. If we can hitch our wagon to their efforts by sponsoring a puja -- be it in person or long-distance -- so much the better. As a general rule, our personal efforts and devotions matter most; but heck, sometimes you need a full-blown homam. If the paid puja route gets you from A to B, go for it! ;-) Good luck ...
