Guest guest
Dear sir/Madam, I have recently joined this group. I have two questions...... What would be the primary traits in the birth chart for someone who has a strong spiritual tendency - for eg any signs for sanyaasa in the birth chart? or even work in a spiritual service role? What are the effects of being under Budh Mahadasa and Ketu antar dasha? Thanks. P.S. would anyone on this board do a horoscope reading? Please let me know. Guest guest
Dear Mini, The spiritual aspects of a horoscope constitute a vast ocean of possible parameters, and I have covered this in much detail in my book, The Spiritual Dimensions of Vedic Astrology. A few initial guidelines may be born in mind, however, in order to get you started: 1. Dharma may be considered the "essence" of something, and with regard to the individual Atma, its dharma is that he (the soul) is an eternal spark of the Infinite and all-pervasive Spirit, which we call Paramatma. The extent to which the Atma - through the continuum of many prior human births - is cogizant of this fact, is proporionately the level to which he is spiritually advanced. 2. In the horoscope, the Dharma of the native is seen through the first of three trikona house, 1, 5, and 9. Raja yoga, Lakshmi-yoga, Dharma-karmadhipati yoga, and numerous other combinations too many to list here, should involve the lords of these houses as well as lords of kendra (angular) houses. 3. The luminaries, Sun and Moon, as well as Jupiter are Sattvic grahas, and there yogas, positions, strength, and general participation in the horoscope framework should be noted carefully to assess the spiritual strengths of the native. Yogakarakas, even if natural malefics, which form Raja-yoga with these three, will contribute greatly to the spiritual possibilities of the native in life, both in the matter of individual realization, as well as in the form of karma, or work in the world to spread these principles on behalf of humanity. 4. The Chara (variable) Atmakaraka is the planet attaining the highest degrees in its sign, and represents the Atma of the soul whose horoscope is being examined. His position and strength in the Navamsa chart, as well as Shastyamsa (D-60) varga charts, will also reveal the strength and purity of the Atma's spiritual realization. The Vimsamsa chart may be examined for the sum total of spiritual advancement, while the timings of events related to the native's spiritual life may be seen in this varga chart through the D-20 Narayana dasa, as well as Drig dasa. 5. Dharma may also be calibrated taking into account the strength of trikonas in the Navamsa chart, as well as trikonas relative to the Karakamsa lagna (the Navamsa position of the AK). If benefics occupy the trikona houses from the KL, then the native is well-versed in sadhana, prayers and services (bhakti) which propitiate specific Deities. If malefics occupy such positions, but in strength or forming strong yogas, then the person may be well-versed in logic (Nyaya), strict austerities (Tapasya), as well as mantra-shastra. If the AK himself occupies the Lagnamsa (Navamsa lagna) in strength, then the person has attained great spiritual strength and lives as if a King (Raja-yoga). 6. If the AK (in the rasi chart) joins the PiK, then Raja-yoga (all yogas relative to spirituality) forms; if the AK and the PK join in the lagna or in the 5th house, Raja-yoga results; if the 1st lord and 5th lord exchange signs (houses), Maha-Raja-yoga results; and if the AK joins the lagna lord in the 5th, 7th, or 9th houses, then Raja-yoga relating to spirituality results. 7. The specific lessons or challenges that may be part of the Atma's spiritual evolution may be seen by way of the planet becoming the AK. For example, if the AK is the Sun, then issues regarding humility or subduing pride may be important to implement in life; if the AK is Mars, then non-violence and Ahimsa are among the lessons needed to be learned; if Jupiter is the AK, then the Atma must pay close attention to the roles of guiding others (guru). These principles are general, yet provide a groundwork understanding of what specific aspects of life-experience will contribute to the soul's spiritual advancement. There are many other dictums and passages in the Jyotish classics wherein the Maharishis have given directives as to the spiritual evolution of the native. I have written about these in my book, in which you can find not only many instructions, but many case illustrations as well. If there is a particular aspect of the above brief summary that you would like elaboration on, you may write to me and I will email you an excerpt to the related chapter in my book. Purchasing the entire book, of course, would give the subject context and much, much more, however. Best wishes, and I hope this helps!
