To Pradeep: Mooladhaara in Moola

Dear Pradeep,

There was a reference to Moola and Mooladhara, though

little bit vague, in a book which I came to read recently. As it is

impossible to quote the entire text as such, let me share it as I

have understood. The context was connecting the Dakshinayana of sun

with yogic body.

The sun starts the south ward journey(Dakshinayana, ie.Cn-Sag), by

transiting into Cancer and continues to descend till it reaches the

lowest point (neecha) of moon,Scorpio. Therefore when the breath

reaches the Mooladhara in its downward journey, it reaches the

position of sun in Dakshinayana at the lowest point in Scorpio. This

connects the fixed star mula with Mooladhara.

Now, this is what I understood on reading it - The sun's journey is

compared to the breath, and the point where sun stops dakshinayana

and starts uttarayana, marks the mooladhara. This junction

corresponds to moola in Sagittarius(or end of scorpio) which is

between scorpio and capricorn.

I donno if my understanding is correct. Please correct if I am

wrong.

Regards,

Jyothi

placing Akula at the top. This need not make your view wrong -

respecting your tradition. But the other views will certainly prevent

me from reaching a conclusion. For example see Kanchi Kamakoti view.

body during nyaasa, as well as in antaryaaga. Different traditions of

Srividya differ slightly in this. The one e.g., followed in the

Kanchi Kamakoti Kamakshi Temple, says that below Muladhara there are

two more chakras, one being called Kulasahasraara, the second

viSusaMGYa. The bhuupura (three square enclosures) then correspond to

the kula-sahasraara, the 16-dala-padma to viSusaNGYa, the 8-dala-

padma to mUlAdhAra, the 8-trikona to svAdhiSThAna,the outer 10-

trikona to maNipUra, the inner 10-trikona to anAhata, the 8-trikona

to vishuddhi, the innermost trikona to lambikAgra (situated at the

> hight of the vulva), and bindu to AGYA. The (akula)-sahasraara

corresponds to the turIya, beyond bindu''.

sides. So let Akula or Kula Sahasraras be at the top.We will come to

it later. As our topic is slightly different, these differences need

not affect our discussion.

deep boundaries are—in front, the pubic arch and the arcuate ligament

of the pubis; behind, the tip of the coccyx; and on either side the

inferior rami of the pubis and ischium, and the sacrotuberous

ligament. The space is somewhat lozenge-shaped and is limited on the

surface of the body by the scrotum in front, by the buttocks behind,
