Guest guest
dear friend away from astrology, these days i observed a growing tendency all over the country that one person must have a guru. some gurus mislead their disciples that without guru, no mantra works. in this process, several self proclaimed gurus have asked their disciples to garland his images and worship him only like god. most of them have grabbed lands and set up huge ashrams and are getting billions of rupees in donations. in this process, after losing several years of seva to their gurus and donating their entire wealth to these gurus, these disciples are attaining GURU REALISATION. Guru is within yourself and god is within yourself. you, you alone and you only can guide yourself. guru can only facilitate you in your ANTARYATRA. all great religious people from this holy land have searched for gurus before they themselves became gurus. with best wishes for finding your guru within arjun vedic astrology, "suchitra_kamath" <suchitra_kamath> wrote: > > Hello All, > > What mantra needs to be chanted for attracting the spiritual Guru in > one's life. Guest guest
Namaskaar Sri Arjun and Sri Suchitra I disagree partially. Guru means the dispeller of ignorance. Guru is very important for knowledge BUT (a BIG BUT) - One should only take the knowledge as the Guru not the person as a Guru. Therefore, one must respect the knowledge and clarity of the person and not take everything as what the person offers without questioning it. Guru's role is to guide the shishya to his/her level of knowledge. He/She should be willing to accept his ignorance on certain topics and make oneself available to other Gurus having such knowledge. This is applicable only if the said Guru is not Self Realized. To find Guru in oneself, one may need an external Guru. Sri Suchitra The yearning of wanting to understand the basis of life, is the best mantra for finding a spiritual Guru. Swami Rama Tirtha says - if you are truly a seeker, the lord will make sure that knowledge reaches you. His statement is so true - Sri Ramakrishna found Narendranath and not the opposite. True yearning for knowledge will make the Guru find you. There is beautiful Zen statement - "Perfect Master, Perfect Disciple" - You will find only such a master that matches the intensity of your yearning. If you inculcate the qualities of a "perfect" disciple, a perfect master shall show the way - the example is - Rama the perfect disciple and Vasishtha the perfect master (Yoga Vasishtha). I am sorry for all this lecture as you had asked a simple question regarding Mantra. By simply chanting "Om Namah Shivaya" you can hasten the process of finding a Guru. Prabhu Shiva is considered to be the Adi Guru and it is his light in other people that make them Gurus. Do not be attached to the Guru but to the light of knowledge - the jyotirlinga! Guest guest
Namaskaar Sri Anand Can you please give the referece to the shloka where it is said that Guru means dispeller of ignorance please ? I have come across this quote a number of times but do not find the classical reference . The root "Gu" is darkness (its likeness is compared to ignorance). The root Ru means disspeller. This should be available in any good Sanskrit dictionary. Similarly I have heard the quote Chandrama manso jat .. to say that moon represents the mind but then I believe that this is only the description of the Virat purush and not directly applicable to Jyotish . Moon does represent the mind in any individual. Moon is the graha that rules our identification to the Mind. It gives reality to the Mind. Like Sun gives reality to Chitta - conditioned consciousness, which essentially tries to distinguish between individual and whole consciousness, thus giving rise to individuality. It is very much applicable to Jyotish. Guest guest
Dear Sharad , Thanks for your help . Thanks Bharat for your clarification too. I do not want to be nitpicking but I have not been able to get this Nirukta of Guru as dispeller of ignorance or darkness. Only one Guru is called by such name Tamantak - that is the Yamraj . If we take this then the Sun or moon would have been called as Guru and not Jupiter . Guru in my opinion simply means Big . Big in intellect , big in stature etc. He is bigger than us , so we follow him on difficult paths . Mahajano Yen Gata sa pantha .... Secondly I do not dispute when Chandra is said to be karak of mind ( mana ) , I only questioned the supporting shloka . Because with that shloka if we take moon for mind then sun has to be for eyes . Of course I know this is a group devoted to astrology , and some people may feel that this discussion here is not related to astrology so henceforth if you agree we will communicate off the list . Guest guest
Shri Brahmadaru Smarami Dear Anand, Most jyotish classics have this reference. For starters you can look up the 3rd chapter of Brhat Parasara Hora Sastra, wherein one of the shlokas commences thus: "sarvatma cha divanatho manah kumudabandhava..."
