Dear Shri. Imran:

First let me harp on astrological protocols before answering your

query....As I have time and again repeated in this forum, a vedic

astrologer is never addressed by his First name except by his own

Guru. All others, his peers included, are expected to be deferential

towards an astrologer. YOu can see that I NEVER address anyone by

First Name....and even in the case of my students, where I prefix the

title "student" meaning "Student of Astrology/ occult" as the case may

be, which in itself in my opinion is a honourable title! Maybe, some

may think I am being chauvinistic about this....but, I will insist on

traditional usages again and again regardless of what others think,

because righteousness and deferential attitude are as important as

knowledge in occult subjects.....I would have simply ignored your mail

(I would have refrained from answering you at all though your query is

genuine!) if you had written to me privately like this.....Kindly note

that I have nothing personal against you.....It is a question of

appropriateness and traditional protocols of which I am a strict

follower. As you have raised this query in a public forum, and the

query serves a common goal, I am answering the query in the larger

interests of the forum.....

You are referring to classification of Gunas of the planet as per

Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra.Yes, according to BPHS, Sun, Moon, and

Jupiter are Satwik; Mercury and Venus are Rajasik; and Mars and Saturn

are Tamasik. The Maharishi has left out Raahu and Ketu from the

classification! But, you can find an anomaly in that, in the same

shastra, Sun along with Mars is classified as a kshatriya! The natural

tendency of a Kshatriya is Rajasik is it not? Even if a kshatriya is

satwik by temperament as Lord Raama or King Yudhishtra, they have

always had to display Raajasik characteristics impelled by the need to

perform their duties....In the same way, though Sun as a satwik planet

(by Guna) may impel a person towards spiritual pursuits, it will also

give Raajasik qualities in the person it being a Kshatriya planet.

Now, what I have stated above is not my reason for classifying Sun as

Raajasik. I have only tried to logically convey how Sun can give

rajasik qualities even assuming it is a satwik planet as per Maharishi

Parashara's views. I relied on Naadi system of astrology where the

Guna of the planet is used to identify its auspiciousness and the

manner of its effects in a person's life....According to this system,

Sun, Moon and Venus are classifed as rajasic.

Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are classified as tamasic.

Jupiter and Mercury are Satvik.

I have found in my personal experience that this classification based

on Nadi system has provided consistent results, and is also supported

by Naadi literature on predictive techniques. You will find the same

classification in the book "Nadi system of Prediction" written by

Shri. Ratan Lal and published by Ranjan Publications.

These are certain controversies in astrology that we may have to

resolve with our personal experiences because these widely differing

views have been expressed by different Sages/ stalwarts!

Blessed be.

Namaskaar Sri Imran and Sri Dakshinamoorthy

The Gunas combinations form four Varnas. It is as follows:

1. Predominantly Sattwic with traces of Rajas and Tamas - Brahmin

2. Predominantly Rajasic with Sattwa more than Tamas - Kshatriya

3. Predominantly Rajasic with Tamas more than Sattwa - Vaishya

4. Predominantly Tamasic with traces of Sattwa and Rajas - Shudra

Sun as a Sattwa graha "creates" the binding through giving cognition to the

ego thought. It is that through with ego, memory, intellect is enlivened.

Since it gives light it is Sattva. This is clear from BPHS.

In many Nadi Granthas, Sun is given as Rajasic. This is based on the

thinking that the Varna of Sun is Kshatriya. It is very important to note

the character of a Kshatriya. A Kshatriya is one who rules to guard Sattwa.

The desire is to uphold dharma within one's kingdom. This is a different

Rajas from that of Vaishya where the predominant desire is to earn kingdom

or wealth for fulfilling baser desires and to laze around (tamas).

It is best to consider Lord Surya as Sattwic for either it is predominantly

Sattwa guna or striving towards it as a Kshatriya. Even the Nadi Granthas

suggest this - If Sun's position is in nakshatra of Jupiter, it does not

spoil its Guna. In such cases, native fights back to uphold dharma in

his/her surroundings.

By understanding the nature of the Gunas and the Varnas, much can be

understood.

Thanks and Regards

Bharat

Once Social Message here: The wrong understanding of the Varnas have led the

society towards "caste system" based on birth. Varna Dharma is totally based

on Gunas and not on based on birth.

Dear Anuj,

Namaste. Good mail. i could feel the flavour of Gita & Swami Dayananda in

your mail. Indeed Sun represents Bhagawad Gita & Highest knowledge(refer

Jaimini Upadesa sutras). Ruling a country, sitting on a throne, wearing the

attire of a King, or playing the role of a King can never stop one from earning

for knowledge. King Janaka is Brahma jnani. The Sun burns within and gives

light. Sun burns the ignorance. We are born in the Mrityu Loka ruled by Mars.

Mars understands only the language of strength. Who can stop him? Is there a

way out? Sun gets exalted in the night strong sign of Mesha to burn the

ignorance of Mrityu Loka.(there is much more as to why the Sun is exalted in

Mesha - i am not going into it now).

Infact the great Sage Agastya gave the mantra bala & adhibala to King Rama

and also asked him to worship Aditya to get over the tamasic pressures of

Mrityu Loka. This does not mean that the sage advised and encouraged Rama to

take to war quite often. It was Rama who asked the Ravana when he was

nirayudhapani(weaponless) to go and come replenished the next day. This

knowledge of the highest compassion at the battle field that too against a

person who had done gross injustice is the blessings of Aditya.

Every Jyotisha is expected to worship the Sun as he is the pratyaksha

swaroopa who is witnessing anything and everything that is going on. He is

trikala jnani. By worshipping the Sun the Lord bestows on his devotee the

vision of Jyotish Vidya.

i am no one to declare that the trikala jnani Sun as Rajasic and to point out

controversies in the utterances of the Sage.

The dwadasa adityas are in real terms the universal donors.

1.Dhata - awareness & cognition of dharma

2.Aryama - Kavach - protection

3.Mitra - Radiance, glory, remover of skin diseases

4.Varuna - Akshayapatra

5.Indra - Mangala gowri vratha - He is the Guru for this great vratha

6.Vivaswan - Blesses the devotee to get rid of the matri & pitri rinas/debts

7.Pusha - Bestows the devotee with deva karma(aruna was given the job of

charioteer) who are not able even to get a shareera/body to finish off their

karmas.

8.Parjanya - Blesses the devotee with ever youthful state for enabling him to

continue their tapas - The underlying hint that he is ready to bless all those

tapaswis (for all those sani/venus/ketu - worship of Parjanya will quicken the

receipt of blessings).

9.Anshuman - Blesses the devotees who are in the habit of worshipping the

atma linga(sphatika linga worship is the bahir mukha form).

10.Bhaga - Blesses the devotee with the greatest boon of eradication of

dharma daridra(powerty in dharma - lack of awareness of the concept of dharma -

blesses the much needed regard & value for dharma).

11.Tvasta - Nothing is impossible - For all those who are sincere in their

tapas and who adhere to dharma and are focussed the blessings of Tvastha aditya

is there - Bhagiratha brought Ganga the jivanadhi for the welfare of one and

all

12. Visnu aditya - He blesses the devotees with the knowledge and state of

immortality - from mrityu to amrita is the transformation brought out by Vishnu

aditya - The Lord Sri Krsna states that among Adityas he is Vishnu aditya.

Sun the power house, the Para, the pratyaksha swaroopa is Satwic as he is the

embodiment of Knowledge and universal donor. i feel and it is my opinion that

there is no controversy in the utterance of sage( i am fully aware that the

sage does not need my opinion or support).

May the Eka Deepa of the Sapta loka bless.

Best wishes.
