Dear All,

Here is an interesting story of a child (now 18), who is believed to be an

avatar of Lord Buddha. I agree that this is a lengthy story, but try to figure

out each detail from his chart. After reading his story, attempt a small puzzle

at the end:

My Name: My full name is Tathagat Avatar Tulsi. Tathagat is the adjective of

Lord Buddha and avatar means 'Incarnation'.Tulsi is name of my father which I

got as surname. So, according to my name, I am incarnation of Lord Buddha!, do

you believe it:). My father Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad is an advocate and my

mother Smt. Chanchal Devi is a teacher. I have two elder brothers Mahesh and

Vishwa. I am brought up mostly in Patna, capital of Bihar but partially in New

Delhi also.

My Childhood: When I was only 6 year old, I used to do long mathematical

calculations very fast and that also without using paper and pen (using only my

brain). I became locally popular in Bihar, when newspapers noticed my talent and

started publishing reports on me calling me by lot of names like "Mathematical

Wizard", "Whiz kid" and "Computer Kid". I remember that first newspaper report

on me was published by "Aaj" (a leading Hindi daily in Bihar) on Feb. 14, 1994.

Then after two media reports of Hindustan & Times of India, Jansatta (a Hindi

daily) published a nationwide article about me on it's front page on May 28,

1994. It changed my world significantly. I got a lot of assistance and

appreciations from all over India, but out of them, only two were very

important. First, Bihar's then Chief Minister Shri Laloo Yadav Ji invited me to

his residence for a meeting on Jun.03,1994 and then also announced to give a

cash award and a personal computer to me. Second, Dr. Bindeshwar

Pathak, Founder of Sulabh Internations Social Service Organization gave me

financial support to settle in New Delhi (capital of India) for better education

prospects and oppurtunities. For a 6 year old child, these things were something

which can't be mentioned in words. After all, it was the first impression of my

life.

Side-by-side, another things were also going on, which started from my sixth

birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a special birthday gift. It was

the bestselling popular science book "A Brief History of Time" written by Prof.

Stephen Hawking. The main reason, why my father gave it to me, was because I

always used to disturb him by asking questions about Universe, Earth, stars etc.

I finished that book in 3 days and after which I was left only with more and

more deeper questions. I came to know about Black holes, Einstein's theory and

Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting for me). I was not able to focus on

my school studies. I started reading other popular science books (second one

which I read was "In Search of Big Bang" by John Gribbin) and always used to

think about these scientific questions. I wanted to do some original research

and the school studies was the biggest hurdle for me. I found school very boring

and finally, I decided to finish my schoolings as

soon as possible.

School Life: I haven't done much of schooling but whatever I have done, I

enjoyed that. I gave my full one-year time to 6th standard, which I did from

Holy Heart Public School (HHPS) from Apr.95 - Mar.96. My school was just a few

walk steps away from our rented apartment in Mahavir Enclave, New Delhi. I liked

this school, its atmosphere, teachers and my classmates cum friends. I don't

know where they are now, but they gave me a very good company. I was under-age

at that time. An 8-year old child is not allowed to write Class 6th exams

according to rule, but still I wrote the final exams. It was only when my

school's annual function day came somewhere in last week of Mar. 96, I felt that

I was really under-age. I did very well in exams but I haven't got any position

when the results were announced. I was surprised. It was an occasion of

celebration: Annual function. Everyone was happy except me: completely

disappointed and emotional at that time. My all labor got wasted. Later,

school authorities said that they can't promote me to higher standard because I

was under-age. They disclosed my result privately to me. Surprise, I topped not

only in class but in whole school !! But of no use, nobody knew this fact.

I had to leave HHPS and then I joined Jindal Public School (JPS), New Delhi

for Class 7th on the condition that I will have to get age-relaxation from

government, which I hadn't got so far. I didn't got it even after my

summer-vacation and then finally on Jul. 10, 1996 I had to leave school. I

started my self-studies at home. I was totally uncertain, where was my future?

Will I have to go back to lower classes according to my age, or something

else???. This uncertainty continued till last week of Oct. 1996, when I received

a letter from Government of Delhi. Surprisingly, then Lieutenant Governor of New

Delhi, Shri P.K.Dubey had granted me age-relaxation (special thanks to him) and

I would have continued my studies in usual way. But destiny wanted something

else! During my self-studies, I finished most of the parts of curriculum of 7th,

8th, 9th & 10th class and I was sure that in next 4 months, I can finish it

completely. I didn't wanted to join 7th class again because I had

already finished it. I told it to my father and he approached CBSE for getting

permission for a 9 year old child (me) to appear in class 10 exams, but in vain.

CBSE and my school was totally against me. Finally, we moved to Delhi High Court

(HC). This unique court-case got the attention of international media and

finally we won it. "Tathagat got HC Tathastu !".

It was the end of my school life. What an unique farewell to school, isn't it?

I can't forget the efforts of my respected father Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad in

all these things. Without his efforts, nothing was possible, no world records at

all.

Golden Period (1997-1999): I don't know, what to say about these three years.

It was neither my childhood because I finished my college in this period, nor my

adulthood because I was below 12! I only know that I had an immense desire to

finish my academics and to start my research as soon as possible. In 1997, I did

my 10th class at the age of 9 years. Special thanks goes to Delhi High Court and

Supreme Court of India for allowing me legally to appear in the exams at a very

young age. For me, it was just a part of my mission to finish my academic

studies as soon as possible, but for others, it was a World record and I became

a Media Star then. After that, I didn't looked back. I had to go to Patna

University for further education because I wanted to directly appear in B.Sc.

exams without doing my Intermediate (equivalent to 12th standard). The reason

for it was that the same case has already happened with Dr. Vashishtha Narayan

Singh (an eminent mathematician of Bihar) who also did

his graduation from Patna University. After an official interview by the

professors of Patna University on Feb.28, 1998, I was allowed to appear directly

in B.Sc. first year exams, but not simultaneously in exams of all the three

years of B.Sc., because that was not in the rule. Again, special thanks to Patna

High Court for breaking this rule specially for me and allowing me to set

another record in 1998: B.Sc. at the age of 10. Then I took admission in M.Sc.

in Jan. 1999 and wrote exams of M.Sc. in Aug. 1999, this time without

intervention of Court, but thanks to then Governor of Bihar Shri B.M.Lal for

allowing me to do so. No need to say, it was again a World Record.

I enjoyed these three years completely. I was totally involved in my studies

for these three years and was not able to notice what's happening with me. It

was only on Dec.07, 1999, when I was declared successful in my M.Sc. exams,

that I realized what I did. "Oops, I finished my M.Sc.", that was the first

thing which came in my mind. I still wonder, how an 11 year old can understand

tough M.Sc. level physics concepts. But I am happy, because that was me.

2000-2002: After my M.Sc., my immediate aim was to qualify National

Eligibility Test (NET), a test conducted by CSIR to determine eligibility for

Junior Research Fellowship & Lectureship. The minimum age required to appear in

the exam was 19 years and I was only 12 then. After some problems, finally

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India granted me

special permission to appear in the exam and I took this exam in Dec. 2000. The

permission was on the basis of positive recommendation of an interview-committee

consisting of physicists of National Physical Laboratory (NPL), special thanks

goes to Prof. A.K.Raychaudhury, then Director of NPL. In May 2001, the result of

exam was published and I qualified it. Newspapers again reported this event,

because for the first time, I qualified a National level Test. I also got

invitation from Department of Science & Technology (DST), India Government, to

join a team of 16 young scientists, who were going to participate

in Nobel Prize Winners' Meeting held in Germany from Jun.25-29, 2001 and to

visit 10 premier German institutions working in the field of physics.

My world was again going to change. I was very happy. It was my first foreign

visit and I was going to meet the greatest minds of physics world. I came back

to India on Jul.09, 2001. After one month, my world changed. On Aug.08, 2001,

the headlines of all Indian newspapers was that I am a fraud. Why, because DST

admitted that it was a blunder to send me to Germany without checking my

certificates. I was shocked. Those people, who were praising me, now started

hating me. I was again in limelight but as a fraud. For a 14-year old child, it

was more than a disaster and I went into a state of depression. I can't describe

in words what happened to me at that time. Suddenly, after two days, a twist

came in story. DST issued a press-release saying that it hasn't made any

statements like this and these media reports were baseless: It was a totally

right step to send me to Germany. I was again happy hoping that now people will

know the fact, but alas newspapers refused to publish this news.

Only few newspapers published it and that also with a very less emphasis

(except The Hindu & Dainik Jagran, special thanks to them). After all, how they

can admit the fact that their recent headlines were totally baseless. The same

situation, nothing changed. Finally we had to go to court for justice. We filed

a defamation suit, which is still going on in Patna Court. I was not able to get

in Ph.D. anywhere that year, because of this controversy.

It was only after one year that I got Ph.D admission in IISc after qualifying

GATE exam and IISc interview. From Aug.2002, I started a new life, for the first

time away from my family.

I & IISc: I joined IISc (Indian Institute of Science) in Aug. 2002. Everything

was new here: a beautiful campus, an air-conditioned city (Bangalore), new hopes

and ambitions, different type of mess food and a new community. At first, I was

little bit uncomfortable with all this, but very soon this campus became like

just another home. Most of the IISc community took special care of me as I was

the youngest student here. I am also thankful to my guide Prof.

H.R.Krishnamurthy, some of the IISc professors, staffs and my IISc friends for

providing me a friendly, rather than purely academic, environment. So, just

after two months, all this made me very very comfortable with IISc.

For the first year, I was busy in my course-work. I took 4 advanced courses:

Advanced Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter Physics 2, Modern topics in

Condensed matter, Low temperature & High magnetic field Physics. During my B.Sc.

& M.Sc., I haven't solved much of the physics problems, but after successfully

finishing my course-work, I became confident that my problem-solving skills are

as good as another M.Sc. qualified student. Side-by-side, in the first year, I

got back the recognition, which I lost due to Germany-trip controversy. My

admission in Ph.D. program of IISc was a sufficient proof that I am not a fraud

and my certificates are not fake. I shot back into media limelight with the news

that I have sealed the debate (controversy).

After course-work (also known as Research Training Program), I decided to work

in the area of "Quantum Information theory" and started reading research papers

related to it, but very soon I was attacked by lot of medical problems which

took four months off my studies. After recovery in Jan. 2004, I again started my

studies, worked on some problems and finally I passed my Comprehensive exam to

get awarded Senior Research fellowship from Aug. 2004.

My Hobbies:

Apart from academics, my hobbies are

1. Playing chess: I love this game too much. If time will permit me (may be

after Ph.D.), then sometime I will focus on it to become an excellent chess

player. Now also, I am a good player but I can't beat Vishwanathan Anand: my

favorite sportsman. I wonder how 32 pieces and 64 squares, half white and half

black, can make such a brain involving task that an intellectual sometimes get

addicted to this game. I remember I have played chess a lot in my night-dreams,

that was the level of addiction. My salute to the person (most probably an

Indian), who discovered chess. Here is the link to site of World Chess

Federation (FIDE) I am a member of IISc Chess-Club committee and we had

organized a chess-tournament at IISc level in Aug.2004 in which I got second

rank (first among students).

2. Music & Movies : I like listening to music. It's a common hobby because

music is a wonderful creation of human mind. I like Hindi film songs and

ghazals. Apart from it, what I like is Bhojpuri songs of Chatth Puja (a grand

festival celebrated a few days after Deepawali by most of the people of Bihar).

I really like it too much and that's an important reason, why I am attached

emotionally to my home-state Bihar. I mainly watch Bollywood movies (I never

felt the need to switch over to Hollywood) but just now I have started watching

English movies also. I like mainly comedy, romantic, sci-fi and well-directed

movies. Best actor is Amitabh Bachhan and best actress is Madhuri Dixit. Best

movie so far is "Hum aapke hain kaun"

3.Others: Other hobbies are reading books. So far, I have read only popular

science books but now I will start reading novels. I always want to be a

physically fit person, so I do exercise and go for jogging regularly. I have a

passion for photography because I want to capture the special moments of life in

best possible way. I have joined photography classes being conducted by IISC

photography club and very soon, I will buy a good camera. I have a passion for

singing also. I will join some singing classes, (again) if time will permit.

Favorite You might be guessing that my favorite subject is physics.

If yes, then you are wrong. It was my favorite subject when I wanted to know how

things around me work. After knowing that, I want to know how things within me

work, so my favorite subject is biology now. May be after studying biology, I

will be interested in philosophy, when I will be eager to know how I (or my

consciousness) am working, forget about things around and within me! But for

now, I am enjoying my research in physics only.

Favorite Color: Red in most situations. Sometimes I like pink more than red.

For some purposes I like other colors: sky blue (the colour of my website

background) or green. I like yellow, only when I worship Lord Sun (as is done in

Chatth Puja). Black & White, I never like except while playing chess! I like

almost all the colors for my dress.

Favorite Living Creature: Snakes (particularly cobra). I am not joking. I like

this dangerous creature too much. It's not that I am not afraid of it, but my

favorite spot in zoo is snake-house. I like its company!

Favorite plant: Tulsi plant. In english, its called "Basil". You can easily

guess the reason, Tulsi is my surname. In India, this plant is worshipped by lot

of people.

1) Astrologically, why was his public image reversed between August 8th 2001 and

Namaste Devikaji,

First of all thank you for introducing Tathagat to us. I had read

about him long time back but again he was lost in the pages of

history. A remarkable soul as he really deserves attention.

Second of all, I have a question. Are you confident on the birth

time? Please do let me know.

Third of all, I haven't seen the Dasas in detail but Rahu in Meena

will not easily wipe out his ill-image. Again, my views.

Regards,

Souvik

Deepawali by most of the people of Bihar). I really like it too much

and that's an important reason, why I am attached emotionally to my

home-state Bihar. I mainly watch Bollywood movies (I never felt the

Dear Devika,

It was really interesting to read. Hard to believe, in

fact. BTY, when I searched more about him in net, I found the DOB as

september 9th instead of 19th.

Which is correct?

and pen (using only my brain). I became locally popular in Bihar,

when newspapers noticed my talent and started publishing reports on

and "Computer Kid". I remember that first newspaper report on me was

published by "Aaj" (a leading Hindi daily in Bihar) on Feb. 14, 1994.

Then after two media reports of Hindustan & Times of India, Jansatta

(a Hindi daily) published a nationwide article about me on it's front

page on May 28, 1994. It changed my world significantly. I got a lot

of assistance and appreciations from all over India, but out of them,

only two were very important. First, Bihar's then Chief Minister Shri

Laloo Yadav Ji invited me to his residence for a meeting on

Jun.03,1994 and then also announced to give a cash award and a

personal computer to me. Second, Dr. Bindeshwar

> Pathak, Founder of Sulabh Internations Social Service Organization

gave me financial support to settle in New Delhi (capital of India)

for better education prospects and oppurtunities. For a 6 year old

child, these things were something which can't be mentioned in words.

After all, it was the first impression of my life.

> Side-by-side, another things were also going on, which started

from my sixth birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a

special birthday gift. It was the bestselling popular science book "A

Brief History of Time" written by Prof. Stephen Hawking. The main

reason, why my father gave it to me, was because I always used to

disturb him by asking questions about Universe, Earth, stars etc. I

finished that book in 3 days and after which I was left only with

more and more deeper questions. I came to know about Black holes,

Einstein's theory and Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting for

me). I was not able to focus on my school studies. I started reading

other popular science books (second one which I read was "In Search

of Big Bang" by John Gribbin) and always used to think about these

scientific questions. I wanted to do some original research and the

school studies was the biggest hurdle for me. I found school very

boring and finally, I decided to finish my schoolings as

> soon as possible.

> School Life: I haven't done much of schooling but whatever I

have done, I enjoyed that. I gave my full one-year time to 6th

standard, which I did from Holy Heart Public School (HHPS) from

Apr.95 - Mar.96. My school was just a few walk steps away from our

rented apartment in Mahavir Enclave, New Delhi. I liked this school,

its atmosphere, teachers and my classmates cum friends. I don't know

where they are now, but they gave me a very good company. I was under-

age at that time. An 8-year old child is not allowed to write Class

6th exams according to rule, but still I wrote the final exams. It

was only when my school's annual function day came somewhere in last

week of Mar. 96, I felt that I was really under-age. I did very well

in exams but I haven't got any position when the results were

announced. I was surprised. It was an occasion of celebration: Annual

function. Everyone was happy except me: completely disappointed and

emotional at that time. My all labor got wasted. Later,

> school authorities said that they can't promote me to higher

standard because I was under-age. They disclosed my result privately

to me. Surprise, I topped not only in class but in whole school !!

But of no use, nobody knew this fact.

> I had to leave HHPS and then I joined Jindal Public School (JPS),

New Delhi for Class 7th on the condition that I will have to get age-

relaxation from government, which I hadn't got so far. I didn't got

it even after my summer-vacation and then finally on Jul. 10, 1996 I

had to leave school. I started my self-studies at home. I was totally

uncertain, where was my future? Will I have to go back to lower

classes according to my age, or something else???. This uncertainty

continued till last week of Oct. 1996, when I received a letter from

Government of Delhi. Surprisingly, then Lieutenant Governor of New

Delhi, Shri P.K.Dubey had granted me age-relaxation (special thanks

to him) and I would have continued my studies in usual way. But

destiny wanted something else! During my self-studies, I finished

most of the parts of curriculum of 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th class and I

was sure that in next 4 months, I can finish it completely. I didn't

wanted to join 7th class again because I had

> already finished it. I told it to my father and he approached CBSE

for getting permission for a 9 year old child (me) to appear in class

10 exams, but in vain. CBSE and my school was totally against me.

Finally, we moved to Delhi High Court (HC). This unique court-case

got the attention of international media and finally we won

it. "Tathagat got HC Tathastu !".

> It was the end of my school life. What an unique farewell to

school, isn't it? I can't forget the efforts of my respected father

Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad in all these things. Without his efforts,

nothing was possible, no world records at all.

> Golden Period (1997-1999): I don't know, what to say about these

three years. It was neither my childhood because I finished my

college in this period, nor my adulthood because I was below 12! I

only know that I had an immense desire to finish my academics and to

start my research as soon as possible. In 1997, I did my 10th class

at the age of 9 years. Special thanks goes to Delhi High Court and

Supreme Court of India for allowing me legally to appear in the exams

at a very young age. For me, it was just a part of my mission to

finish my academic studies as soon as possible, but for others, it

was a World record and I became a Media Star then. After that, I

didn't looked back. I had to go to Patna University for further

education because I wanted to directly appear in B.Sc. exams without

doing my Intermediate (equivalent to 12th standard). The reason for

it was that the same case has already happened with Dr. Vashishtha

Narayan Singh (an eminent mathematician of Bihar) who also did

> his graduation from Patna University. After an official interview

by the professors of Patna University on Feb.28, 1998, I was allowed

to appear directly in B.Sc. first year exams, but not simultaneously

in exams of all the three years of B.Sc., because that was not in the

rule. Again, special thanks to Patna High Court for breaking this

rule specially for me and allowing me to set another record in 1998:

B.Sc. at the age of 10. Then I took admission in M.Sc. in Jan. 1999

and wrote exams of M.Sc. in Aug. 1999, this time without intervention

of Court, but thanks to then Governor of Bihar Shri B.M.Lal for

allowing me to do so. No need to say, it was again a World Record.

> I enjoyed these three years completely. I was totally involved in

my studies for these three years and was not able to notice what's

happening with me. It was only on Dec.07, 1999, when I was declared

successful in my M.Sc. exams, that I realized what I did. "Oops, I

finished my M.Sc.", that was the first thing which came in my mind. I

still wonder, how an 11 year old can understand tough M.Sc. level

physics concepts. But I am happy, because that was me.

> 2000-2002: After my M.Sc., my immediate aim was to qualify

National Eligibility Test (NET), a test conducted by CSIR to

determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship & Lectureship.

The minimum age required to appear in the exam was 19 years and I was

only 12 then. After some problems, finally Ministry of Human Resource

Development (MHRD), Government of India granted me special permission

to appear in the exam and I took this exam in Dec. 2000. The

permission was on the basis of positive recommendation of an

interview-committee consisting of physicists of National Physical

Laboratory (NPL), special thanks goes to Prof. A.K.Raychaudhury, then of NPL. In May 2001, the result of exam was published and I

qualified it. Newspapers again reported this event, because for the

first time, I qualified a National level Test. I also got invitation

from Department of Science & Technology (DST), India Government, to

join a team of 16 young scientists, who were going to participate

> in Nobel Prize Winners' Meeting held in Germany from Jun.25-29,

2001 and to visit 10 premier German institutions working in the field

of physics.

> My world was again going to change. I was very happy. It was my

first foreign visit and I was going to meet the greatest minds of

physics world. I came back to India on Jul.09, 2001. After one month,

my world changed. On Aug.08, 2001, the headlines of all Indian

newspapers was that I am a fraud. Why, because DST admitted that it

was a blunder to send me to Germany without checking my certificates.

I was shocked. Those people, who were praising me, now started hating

me. I was again in limelight but as a fraud. For a 14-year old child,

it was more than a disaster and I went into a state of depression. I

can't describe in words what happened to me at that time. Suddenly,

after two days, a twist came in story. DST issued a press-release

saying that it hasn't made any statements like this and these media

reports were baseless: It was a totally right step to send me to

Germany. I was again happy hoping that now people will know the fact,

but alas newspapers refused to publish this news.

> Only few newspapers published it and that also with a very less

emphasis (except The Hindu & Dainik Jagran, special thanks to them).

After all, how they can admit the fact that their recent headlines

were totally baseless. The same situation, nothing changed. Finally

we had to go to court for justice. We filed a defamation suit, which

is still going on in Patna Court. I was not able to get in Ph.D.

anywhere that year, because of this controversy.

> It was only after one year that I got Ph.D admission in IISc

after qualifying GATE exam and IISc interview. From Aug.2002, I

started a new life, for the first time away from my family.

> I & IISc: I joined IISc (Indian Institute of Science) in Aug.

2002. Everything was new here: a beautiful campus, an air-conditioned

city (Bangalore), new hopes and ambitions, different type of mess

food and a new community. At first, I was little bit uncomfortable

with all this, but very soon this campus became like just another

home. Most of the IISc community took special care of me as I was the

Dear Jyothi,

Thanks for correcting me, I don't know how I could have made such a typo.

The birth date is in fact September 9th 1987.

Devika.

rented apartment in Mahavir Enclave, New Delhi.

It was an occasion of celebration: Annual

function. Everyone was happy except me: completely disappointed and

had to leave school. I started my self-studies at home. I was totally

classes according to my age, or something else???. This uncertainty

continued till last week of Oct. 1996, when I received a letter from

Government of Delhi. Surprisingly, then Lieutenant Governor of New

Delhi, Shri P.K.Dubey had granted me age-relaxation (special thanks

to him) and I would have continued my studies in usual way. But

destiny wanted something else! During my self-studies, I finished

most of the parts of curriculum of 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th class and I

> already finished it. I told it to my father and he approached CBSE

for getting permission for a 9 year old child (me) to appear in class

10 exams, but in vain. CBSE and my school was totally against me.

got the attention of international media and finally we won

it. "Tathagat got HC Tathastu !".

school, isn't it?

> 2000-2002: After my M.Sc., my immediate aim was to qualify

only 12 then.

At first, I was little bit uncomfortable

with all this, but very soon this campus became like just another

home. Most of the IISc community took special care of me as I was the

youngest student here. I am also thankful to my guide Prof.

H.R.Krishnamurthy, some of the IISc professors, staffs and my IISc

friends for providing me a friendly, rather than purely academic,

environment. So, just after two months, all this made me very very

comfortable with IISc.

> For the first year, I was busy in my course-work. I took 4

advanced courses: Advanced Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter

Physics 2, Modern topics in Condensed matter, Low temperature & High

magnetic field Physics. During my B.Sc. & M.Sc., I haven't solved

much of the physics problems, but after successfully finishing my

course-work, I became confident that my problem-solving skills are as

good as another M.Sc. qualified student. Side-by-side, in the first

year, I got back the recognition, which I lost due to Germany-trip

controversy. My admission in Ph.D. program of IISc was a sufficient

proof that I am not a fraud and my certificates are not fake. I shot

back into media limelight with the news that I have sealed the debate

(controversy).

> After course-work (also known as Research Training Program), I

decided to work in the area of "Quantum Information theory" and

started reading research papers related to it, but very soon I was

attacked by lot of medical problems which took four months off my

studies. After recovery in Jan. 2004, I again started my studies,

worked on some problems and finally I passed my Comprehensive exam to

get awarded Senior Research fellowship from Aug. 2004.

> My Hobbies:

> Apart from academics, my hobbies are

> 1. Playing chess: I love this game too much. If time will permit

me (may be after Ph.D.), then sometime I will focus on it to become

an excellent chess player. Now also, I am a good player but I can't

beat Vishwanathan Anand: my favorite sportsman. I wonder how 32

pieces and 64 squares, half white and half black, can make such a

brain involving task that an intellectual sometimes get addicted to

this game. I remember I have played chess a lot in my night-dreams,

that was the level of addiction. My salute to the person (most

probably an Indian), who discovered chess. Here is the link to site

of World Chess Federation (FIDE) I am a member of IISc Chess-Club

committee and we had organized a chess-tournament at IISc level in

Aug.2004 in which I got second rank (first among students).

> 2. Music & Movies : I like listening to music. It's a common

hobby because music is a wonderful creation of human mind. I like

Hindi film songs and ghazals. Apart from it, what I like is Bhojpuri

songs of Chatth Puja (a grand festival celebrated a few days after

Deepawali by most of the people of Bihar). I really like it too much

and that's an important reason, why I am attached emotionally to my

home-state Bihar. I mainly watch Bollywood movies (I never felt the

need to switch over to Hollywood) but just now I have started

watching English movies also. I like mainly comedy, romantic, sci-fi

and well-directed movies. Best actor is Amitabh Bachhan and best

actress is Madhuri Dixit. Best movie so far is "Hum aapke hain kaun"

> 3.Others: Other hobbies are reading books. So far, I have read

only popular science books but now I will start reading novels. I

always want to be a physically fit person, so I do exercise and go

for jogging regularly. I have a passion for photography because I

want to capture the special moments of life in best possible way. I

have joined photography classes being conducted by IISC photography

club and very soon, I will buy a good camera. I have a passion for

singing also. I will join some singing classes, (again) if time will

permit.

> Favorite You might be guessing that my favorite subject

is physics. If yes, then you are wrong. It was my favorite subject

when I wanted to know how things around me work. After knowing that,

I want to know how things within me work, so my favorite subject is

biology now. May be after studying biology, I will be interested in

philosophy, when I will be eager to know how I (or my consciousness)

am working, forget about things around and within me! But for now, I

am enjoying my research in physics only.

> Favorite Color: Red in most situations. Sometimes I like pink

more than red. For some purposes I like other colors: sky blue (the

colour of my website background) or green. I like yellow, only when I

worship Lord Sun (as is done in Chatth Puja). Black & White, I never

like except while playing chess! I like almost all the colors for my

dress.

> Favorite Living Creature: Snakes (particularly cobra). I am not

joking. I like this dangerous creature too much. It's not that I am

not afraid of it, but my favorite spot in zoo is snake-house. I like

its company!

> Favorite plant: Tulsi plant. In english, its called "Basil". You

can easily guess the reason, Tulsi is my surname. In India, this

plant is worshipped by lot of people.

Dear Souvik Ji,

The birth date is not 19th but 9th, so it is September 9th 1987. The time

is correct (not rectified). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Devika.

Regards,

Souvik

lengthy story, but try to figure out each detail from his chart.

After reading his story, attempt a small puzzle at the end:

I am incarnation of Lord Buddha!, do you believe it:). My father

Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad is an advocate and my mother Smt. Chanchal

brought up mostly in Patna, capital of Bihar but partially in New

Delhi also.

mathematical calculations very fast and that also without using

paper and pen (using only my brain). I became locally popular in

Bihar, when newspapers noticed my talent and started publishing

reports on me calling me by lot of names like "Mathematical

Wizard", "Whiz kid" and "Computer Kid". I remember that first

newspaper report on me was published by "Aaj" (a leading Hindi daily

in Bihar) on Feb. 14, 1994. Then after two media reports of

Hindustan & Times of India, Jansatta (a Hindi daily) published a

nationwide article about me on it's front page on May 28, 1994. It

changed my world significantly. I got a lot of assistance and

appreciations from all over India, but out of them, only two were

very important. First, Bihar's then Chief Minister Shri Laloo Yadav

Ji invited me to his residence for a meeting on Jun.03,1994 and then

also announced to give a cash award and a personal computer to me.

Second, Dr. Bindeshwar

> Pathak, Founder of Sulabh Internations Social Service

Organization gave me financial support to settle in New Delhi

(capital of India) for better education prospects and oppurtunities.

from my sixth birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a

special birthday gift. It was the bestselling popular science

book "A Brief History of Time" written by Prof. Stephen Hawking. The

main reason, why my father gave it to me, was because I always used

to disturb him by asking questions about Universe, Earth, stars etc.

I finished that book in 3 days and after which I was left only with

more and more deeper questions. I came to know about Black holes,

Einstein's theory and Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting

brain involving task that an intellectual sometimes get addicted to

I will join some singing classes, (again) if time

will permit.

I like yellow, only when

I worship Lord Sun (as is done in Chatth Puja). Black & White, I

never like except while playing chess! I like almost all the colors

for my dress.

Devika.

Again, my views.

believed to be an avatar of Lord Buddha. I agree that this is a

lengthy story, but try to figure out each detail from his chart.

After reading his story, attempt a small puzzle at the end:

>

> My Name: My full name is Tathagat Avatar Tulsi. Tathagat is the

adjective of Lord Buddha and avatar means 'Incarnation'.Tulsi is

name of my father which I got as surname. So, according to my name,

I am incarnation of Lord Buddha!, do you believe it:). My father

Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad is an advocate and my mother Smt. Chanchal

Devi is a teacher. I have two elder brothers Mahesh and Vishwa. I am

brought up mostly in Patna, capital of Bihar but partially in New

Delhi also.

> My Childhood: When I was only 6 year old, I used to do long

mathematical calculations very fast and that also without using

paper and pen (using only my brain).

For a 6 year old child, these things were something which can't be

mentioned in words. After all, it was the first impression of my

life.

> Side-by-side, another things were also going on, which started

from my sixth birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a

special birthday gift.

Einstein's theory and Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting

for me). I was not able to focus on my school studies. I started

reading other popular science books (second one which I read was "In

Search of Big Bang" by John Gribbin) and always used to think about

these scientific questions. I wanted to do some original research

and the school studies was the biggest hurdle for me. I found school

very boring and finally, I decided to finish my schoolings as

> soon as possible.

I was

under-age at that time. An 8-year old child is not allowed to write

Class 6th exams according to rule, but still I wrote the final

exams. It was only when my school's annual function day came

somewhere in last week of Mar. 96, I felt that I was really under-

age. I did very well in exams but I haven't got any position when

the results were announced. I was surprised. It was an occasion of

celebration: Annual function. Everyone was happy except me:

completely disappointed and emotional at that time. My all labor got

wasted. Later,

> school authorities said that they can't promote me to higher

standard because I was under-age. They disclosed my result privately

to me. Surprise, I topped not only in class but in whole school !!

But of no use, nobody knew this fact.

> I had to leave HHPS and then I joined Jindal Public School

(JPS), New Delhi for Class 7th on the condition that I will have to

get age-relaxation from government, which I hadn't got so far. I

didn't got it even after my summer-vacation and then finally on Jul.

10, 1996 I had to leave school. I started my self-studies at home. I

was totally uncertain, where was my future? Will I have to go back

to lower classes according to my age, or something else???. This

uncertainty continued till last week of Oct. 1996, when I received a

letter from Government of Delhi. Surprisingly, then Lieutenant

Governor of New Delhi, Shri P.K.Dubey had granted me age-relaxation

(special thanks to him) and I would have continued my studies in

usual way. But destiny wanted something else! During my self-

studies, I finished most of the parts of curriculum of 7th, 8th, 9th

& 10th class and I was sure that in next 4 months, I can finish it

completely. I didn't wanted to join 7th class again because I had

> already finished it. I told it to my father and he approached

CBSE for getting permission for a 9 year old child (me) to appear in

class 10 exams, but in vain. CBSE and my school was totally against

me. Finally, we moved to Delhi High Court (HC). This unique court-

case got the attention of international media and finally we won

Supreme Court of India for allowing me legally to appear in the

exams at a very young age. For me, it was just a part of my mission

to finish my academic studies as soon as possible, but for others,

it was a World record and I became a Media Star then.

After an official interview

by the professors of Patna University on Feb.28, 1998, I was allowed

to appear directly in B.Sc. first year exams, but not simultaneously

in exams of all the three years of B.Sc., because that was not in

the rule. Again, special thanks to Patna High Court for breaking

this rule specially for me and allowing me to set another record in

1998: B.Sc. at the age of 10. Then I took admission in M.Sc. in Jan.

1999 and wrote exams of M.Sc. in Aug. 1999, this time without

intervention of Court, but thanks to then Governor of Bihar Shri

B.M.Lal for allowing me to do so. No need to say, it was again a

World Record.

> I enjoyed these three years completely. I was totally involved

in my studies for these three years and was not able to notice

what's happening with me. It was only on Dec.07, 1999, when I was

declared successful in my M.Sc. exams, that I realized what I

did. "Oops, I finished my M.Sc.", that was the first thing which

came in my mind. I still wonder, how an 11 year old can understand

tough M.Sc. level physics concepts. But I am happy, because that was

me.

> 2000-2002: After my M.Sc., my immediate aim was to qualify

National Eligibility Test (NET), a test conducted by CSIR to

determine eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship & Lectureship.

The minimum age required to appear in the exam was 19 years and I

was only 12 then. After some problems, finally Ministry of Human

Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India granted me special

permission to appear in the exam and I took this exam in Dec. 2000.

The permission was on the basis of positive recommendation of an

interview-committee consisting of physicists of National Physical

Laboratory (NPL), special thanks goes to Prof. A.K.Raychaudhury,

then Director of NPL. In May 2001, the result of exam was published

and I qualified it. Newspapers again reported this event, because

for the first time, I qualified a National level Test. I also got

invitation from Department of Science & Technology (DST), India

Government, to join a team of 16 young scientists, who were going to

participate

> in Nobel Prize Winners' Meeting held in Germany from Jun.25-29,

2001 and to visit 10 premier German institutions working in the

field of physics.

> My world was again going to change. I was very happy. It was my

first foreign visit and I was going to meet the greatest minds of

physics world. I came back to India on Jul.09, 2001. After one

month, my world changed. On Aug.08, 2001, the headlines of all

Indian newspapers was that I am a fraud. Why, because DST admitted

that it was a blunder to send me to Germany without checking my

certificates. I was shocked. Those people, who were praising me, now

started hating me. I was again in limelight but as a fraud. For a 14-

year old child, it was more than a disaster and I went into a state

of depression. I can't describe in words what happened to me at that

time. Suddenly, after two days, a twist came in story. DST issued a

press-release saying that it hasn't made any statements like this

and these media reports were baseless: It was a totally right step

to send me to Germany. I was again happy hoping that now people will

know the fact, but alas newspapers refused to publish this news.

2002. Everything was new here: a beautiful campus, an air-

conditioned city (Bangalore), new hopes and ambitions, different

type of mess food and a new community. At first, I was little bit

uncomfortable with all this, but very soon this campus became like

just another home. Most of the IISc community took special care of

me as I was the youngest student here. I am also thankful to my

guide Prof. H.R.Krishnamurthy, some of the IISc professors, staffs

and my IISc friends for providing me a friendly, rather than purely

academic, environment. So, just after two months, all this made me

very very comfortable with IISc.

> For the first year, I was busy in my course-work. I took 4

advanced courses: Advanced Statistical Physics, Condensed Matter

Physics 2, Modern topics in Condensed matter, Low temperature & High

magnetic field Physics. During my B.Sc. & M.Sc., I haven't solved

much of the physics problems, but after successfully finishing my

course-work, I became confident that my problem-solving skills are

as good as another M.Sc. qualified student. Side-by-side, in the

first year, I got back the recognition, which I lost due to Germany-

trip controversy. My admission in Ph.D. program of IISc was a

sufficient proof that I am not a fraud and my certificates are not

fake. I shot back into media limelight with the news that I have

sealed the debate (controversy).

> After course-work (also known as Research Training Program), I

decided to work in the area of "Quantum Information theory" and

started reading research papers related to it, but very soon I was

attacked by lot of medical problems which took four months off my

studies. After recovery in Jan. 2004, I again started my studies,

worked on some problems and finally I passed my Comprehensive exam

to get awarded Senior Research fellowship from Aug. 2004.

Dear All,

I was reading the life story of Thathagat and casted the horoscope

as per the erronious date given by Davika ji, i.e. Sep, 19, 1987. In

the course of casting the horoscope (using Chandra Hari Ayanamsa &

instead of 2.36.00 am!!!! And got the following Vimsothari Desa and

happens so!!!

Have anybody experienced that situations, where you are making

predictions based on totally wrong data and still reaching at

satisfying predictions for the client??! It happens to many, I know!!

As you know this date and time is wrong, and the chart as well. The

newely supplied (correct???) date and time is : Sep, 19, 1987. 2.36

But, I am confuced, it can not be!! The erronious date supplied by

Davika ji itself is a nimitha which indicates that the date and time

supplied is wrong, and better not predict anything based on that.

There would be many who feel the other way round. But I stopped

there, and saved the chart with the new data, posted this message and

now going back to work again....

Love,

Om Gurave Namah

Namaste Devika ji,

Thanks for giving us this very interesting profile and puzzle. His

brilliance at a very tender age can be seen from the heavily loaded

2nd house, and such raja yogas too!!

I find the following pattern fascinating, and perhaps this holds the

key to the boy's unhappy experience. Venus is the AK, is the 4th

lord, is heavily afflicted by conjunction with Mars & Sun (despite

the raja yogas)and is grimly aspected by Saturn from 5th house,

which also happens to be the AL. While Venus happens to be the 4th

lord from lagna, Saturn is the 4th lord from AL...all involving

education.

In navamsa both Sun and Mercury are debilitated...in addition,

Mercury is caught in the nodal axis both in rasi and navamsa, like

the Moon. From Moon, Mercury is the 4th lord, apart from being the

vidya karaka, and I think it would be interesting to see vimsottari

dasa in this regard..

Vimsottari Dasa (started from Moon):

Sat PAD: 2001-08-08 (4:00:26 am) - 2001-08-09 (8:24:58 am)

As Mercury also rules 12th house from lagna, I think the foreign

trip triggered the event. My take is that Tathagat may have to

undergo some tough times upto 2011.

Waiting for corrections, as usual.

Regards,

Lakshmi

After reading his story, attempt a small puzzle at the end:

>

> My Name: My full name is Tathagat Avatar Tulsi. Tathagat is the

adjective of Lord Buddha and avatar means 'Incarnation'.Tulsi is

name of my father which I got as surname. So, according to my name,

I am incarnation of Lord Buddha!, do you believe it:). My father

Shri Tulsi Narayan Prasad is an advocate and my mother Smt. Chanchal

Devi is a teacher. I have two elder brothers Mahesh and Vishwa. I am

Delhi also.

> My Childhood: When I was only 6 year old, I used to do long

mathematical calculations very fast and that also without using

paper and pen (using only my brain).

For a 6 year old child, these things were something which can't be

mentioned in words. After all, it was the first impression of my

life.

> Side-by-side, another things were also going on, which started

from my sixth birthday (Sep.09, 1993) when my father gave me a

special birthday gift.

Einstein's theory and Quantum mechanics (all was very interesting

I was

under-age at that time.

This unique court-

case got the attention of international media and finally we won

Supreme Court of India for allowing me legally to appear in the

exams at a very young age. For me, it was just a part of my mission

to finish my academic studies as soon as possible, but for others,

it was a World record and I became a Media Star then.

After an official interview

by the professors of Patna University on Feb.28, 1998, I was allowed

to appear directly in B.Sc. first year exams, but not simultaneously

in exams of all the three years of B.Sc., because that was not in

I will join some singing classes, (again) if time

will permit.

I like yellow, only when

I worship Lord Sun (as is done in Chatth Puja). Black & White, I

never like except while playing chess! I like almost all the colors

for my dress.

Dear Devika,

Thanks for presenting this interesting chart.

Second house is prominent both from the Lagan as well as the Moon.

Mercury in his own house and the strong position of Mars the YK

lording a kendra and a kona house are all pointers to the exceptional

brilliance of the boy. I was however impressed by the configuration in

his D-10 and D-24 charts, where the YK saturn strongly placed in 10th

house and YK Venus in the 5th house respectively complete the story.

Certainly the divisional charts give a clearer picture and act like

zooms.Obviously all this has happened in his Merc MD.

He is running Ven AD in Mercury MD presently. My guess is he should do

better from Jan 2007 in his Sun AD.

> songs of Chatth Puja (a grand festival celebrated a few days after
