If you go to my site www.ShyamasundaraDasa.com then click on resources>downloads you will find the complete Ganguli edition of the Mahabharata. Download it, then go to the section just before the actual battle of Kurukshetra. There you will find mention of stellar positions of the planets. However you may be a little dissapointed in that they are rather enigmatic references and not easy to understand or use for arriving at a date. I have seen MANY speculative dates for the battle of Kurukshetra none of which can be acertained as being accurate. However many are clearly wrong. All we realy know from Mahabharata is that the battle took place 36 years before the beginning of Kali Yuga (I am quoting 36 years from memory I may be off on that number). The main reason it is so hard to decipher this information is because of the deal that Vysadeva made with Ganesha. Vysadeva asked Ganesha to write down the Mahabharata as Vysadeva dictated it. Ganesha agreed to do so on the stipulation that Vysadeva speak without stopping. Vysadeva agreed to Ganeshes proposal on condition that Ganesa not write anything down until he understood what Vysadeva had written. Vysadeva composed about 8000 slokas that were so deep and enigmatic in meaning that Ganesa had to pause for a while beofre he could understand the meaning. So if these verses caused Ganesha to pause and think for a while then what to speak of mere mortals like us.
