Guest guest
Namaste. Kannagi is not a role-model. She is a Goddess. She is said to be the reigning deity of the famous Shri Thirupuraikkal Bhagawathi Temple, Vadakkanthara, Palakkad. My mother hails from Vadakkantara Village. I grew up listening to tales of the Bhagawathi's glory. Legend is that Kannagi stormed Her way to Palakkad after burning Madurai and it was at the temple site that Her anger completely subsided. She is considered the incarnation of Devi Durga. This temple is one of the foremost Devi temples of Kerala. Its fame and the crowds of devotees that throng it daily are proof enough to demonstrate the adoration, respect and love Kannagi commands in the South Indian psyche. One may remove Her from a beach. But, She owns permanent residence in the heart of Devi devotees. It is a pity that She is being wronged time and again. Sorry, I am emotional and I like it that way when it comes to Her. To me, Kannagi is the very same LopAmudrArchita (the one worshipped by LopAmudrA). VedAs and women don't end in India. PraNAms. Guest guest
Thank you sri Madathil Nairji for completing the rest of the Kannagi Legend ... You are absolutely right - it is even silly of us to limit her role as a fictional character in the great Sangam epic classic poem 'Silapathikaram' - to many young women, she is verily the 'goddess' - many yoing women worship her on Chitra Pournami day in The KANNAGI MANGALA DEVI TEMPLE in Kerala hoping to get a 'good' bridegroom. Only a devi bhakta can really understand 'karpukarasi' Kannagi. ( karpukarasi means - queen of chastity) How can a film actress turned politician (crafty and corrupt) ever know or appreciate what 'chastity' means ? Kannagi's tale is an inspiring tale of courage and bravery. How one woman singlehandedly stood up to the injustice meted out to her - Kanaagi , along with Devi SITA, DAMAYANTI, DRAUPADI, MANDODHARI stands as a Chaste woman worthy of emulation. on another note , it is said that Kannagi originally hailed from Kerala and that is she went back to her native place to rest there in her final days. It is indeed a fitting tribute to Kannagi that she is enshrined as a Goddess in a Kerala temple where she is honored sand worshipped as an incarnation of Devi Durga..Where women are worshipped , Gods stay says Manu smriti. No wonder , Kerala has produced such enlightened spiritual giants such as Adi shankara bhagvadapada , Narayana guru, Narayana Bhattathri and of course Mata AMRITANANDAMAYI. Nairji writes ... Nairji , just a few days ago we were talking about how a Mother is one's prathama guru ! you are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful mother who inculcated in you a sense of reverance for Women as Goddesses and introduced you to Devi worship. Adi shankara bhagvadapada's mother was also a 'shakti' worshipper. i want to dedicate the following lines to you Arogyam vidvaTtA sajjanmaiTRi mAhAkule janma svADhintA cha punsAm mAhadaishvarya vinApyarTheHe Good Health, Intelligence, friendship with noble people, birth in a great (noble) family and not being dependent on others (Say for economic or any other needs) - these things (and not 'money') - are the real wealth of a man. Thank you dear Divine mother for all this Satsangati! And thank you again for speaking up on an important issue concerning women and their 'images'
