But there was a conversation in Bombay on August 15 1976 about Bhagavat Saptaha (TD Vol 4): Various questions and comments arose as he walked. Gopäla Kåñëa mentioned a famous actress and singer, Çré Lakñna-pandit, the sister-in-law of one of our western devotees. He said she was scheduled to come tomorrow to sing bhajanas at our pandala and wondered if it was alright. "Yes," Prabhupäda told him. "Before Deity one can do. Before Deity one can show devotional activities, but not otherwise. Otherwise it will be sense enjoyment." To make doubly sure Gopäla Kåñëa said, "In Våndävana once you told me not to have the räsa-lélä by these professionals also." "No, before Deity everything," Prabhupäda told him. Acyutänanda Mahäräja also sounded him out about a program involving outsiders. "We're invited to do kértana to inaugurate a Bhägavat-saptäha and the Dvärakä Çaìkaräcärya will be present." Sumati Morarjé is the patron so he assumed it would be a Vallabhäcärya sect function. Prabhupäda was agreeable. "No, no, we have no objection with Vallabha." Then mentioned the letter he had recently sent from France to Sumati Morarjé. "About that Vallabhäcärya, she wrote me letter, I've replied it." Acyutänanda was aware of it. "Yes, Giriräja told me. I never mention those..." "No, don't mention it," Prabhupäda said. Acyutänanda explained why. "Their history is that Vallabhäcärya had the dream and discovered at Govardhana the Çré Näthajé, Gopäla Deity, and there was no Mädhavendra Puré." Prabhupäda gave a little look of surprise. "Äcchä? But in the court it has been established. One lawyer in Delhi, he told me that this Deity belongs to the Gauòéya-sampradäya." "How did it come to them?" Acyutänanda asked. "Somebody delivered to Vallabhäcärya. Mädhavendra Puré is not possible, somebody else," Çréla Prabhupäda said. Then coming back to the original subject of Acyutänanda Swami's inquiry he asked, "Dvärakä Çaìkaräcärya, he's a Mäyävädé, and he'll give Bhägavata?" "No," Acyutänanda told him. "He's just going to give blessings to the... He's presiding, I guess. " That apparently satisfied Çréla Prabhupäda and he walked for a few minutes but then brought the matter up again. "Bhägavat-saptäha, it is not authorized," he said. "No," Acyutänanda acknowledged. "But in some editions of Bhägavatam they have a Bhägavata-mähätmyam, and there's a story about bhakti and jïäna and vairägya and Närada Muni." Prabhupäda shook his head. "That no äcärya has mentioned." Harikeça Swami also knew of it. "That's Gita Press again." "They say how this is the instructions for how Bhägavata should be read in seven days up to this canto," Acyutänanda added. Çréla Prabhupäda dismissed it. "Gita Press was Mäyävädé." I don't know if this is any help but I will try to check on the Gita-jayanti as soon as I can. Your humble servant, Hari-sauri dasa
