Guest guest
This is extremely interesting. Are they preparing an English edition? As far as I knew there was only David Haberman preparing an English translation of the complete Bhakti Rasamrita Sindhu. > > I heard that the Indira Gandhi Institute for the Arts were preparing an > edition of BRS. It may even be David Haberman's edition that they are publishing... I don't have the book here with me but when I get a chance I'll get all the details for you (Monday perhaps). If you were seeking spiritual guidance from such a translation, then perhaps it would be "utterly useless." I'm reading Haberman's "Acting as a Way of Salvation" at the moment, and while I'm not about to add his picture to my altar, I have found it very interesting to see Gaudiya Vaisnavism from an outsider's perspective. Even his preliminary remarks about socialization made me look closer at both the process of sadhana and ISKCON. Perhaps if you can't even find a single piece of gold, then at least you'll have a better understanding of how to preach to someone coming from such a background and will be familar with their arguments. Didn't Srila Prabhupada use Dr Radhakrishna's Gita in the early days? And didn't he then repeatedly comdemn the ideas contained in it, which were the very ideas that prevent many others from approaching Krsna? Many contemporary devotional scholars and writers use non-devotional literature as an aid to their studies and as an impetus for their writing. So it seems that they are not of the opinion that such works are "utterly useless." Hare Krsna, ys. brajajana
