Srila Prabhupada went to the Prayaga Kumbhamela himself, in 1977,

despite his ill health and the bitter cold of the riverbank encampment. Some

of the devotees present at that time belittled the pious pilgrims and felt

themselves above observing the age-old ritual bath, but Srila Prabhupada

objected to this and told them to follow the standard procedure along with the

other pilgrims.
