The book "Classical Samkhya: An interpretation of its history and meaning" by Gerald J. Larson (Motilal Publishers, Delhi, 1969) is the standard text used in academe. It's not Vaisnava but it's the same as the Vaisnava perspective in terms of evolution of the world from prakrti. The only difference is that it doesn't posit a supreme Isvara prior to prakrti.
