Guest guest
All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Dear Govinda Prabhu, Please accept my humble obeisances. Yes. With all due respect to Madhusudani Prabhu, the regimen outlined in your message is the proper way to observe ekadashi -- for those who do not fast completely. Vaisnavas from all sampradayas observe ekadashi as per your quote. Indeed, I grew up like that with my mother, belonging to the Rudra Sampradaya (Sri Vallabhacharya's line), observing ekadashi like that along with others. Srila Prabhupada was not too specific about how to observe ekadashi, and when he said refrain from 'grains and beans' he said it in a general manner. Srila Prabhupada himself said that there were many rules and regulations to follow and that if he gave them all at once to his Western disciples, then they would simply faint. Since you are from India, or of Indian descent, you should already be familiar with many of the rules and regulations and should strive to follow them to your best ability. Asking about them in this forum and soliciting replies from those who have no idea about them is simply futile. Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada, Nayan. Guest guest
With all due respect Nayan Prabhu, I hope you didn't mean that the way it sounded. Or are you implying that all the temples that serve cauliflower and tomatoes on ekadasi "have no idea about them"? I think it's safe to assume that Srila Prabhupada knew *exactly* what he was asking us to do and I don't understand how you can state that he only spoke in a general manner. There are many statements by Prabhupada in which he gets quite specific. Unless you can show me one where he says "no cauliflower or tomatoes", I'm going to take Prabhupada's words over those of "Indian rules and regulations". Prabhupada didn't want to turn us into "Indians". He wanted to make us Vaisnavas, which transcends national designations, and he knew exactly what he was doing. If Srila Prabhupada said no grains or beans, I think we're very safe following his directions, regardless of what non-ISKCON Hindu families might be saying. Prabhupada broke with Hiindu tradition in many, many ways. But it's of course everyone's choice who they want to follow. Please just don't say that those of us who choose to follow Prabhupada "have no idea". Thank you. Guest guest
Why just 25 rounds? You should chant as many as possible. Real Ekadasi means fasting and chanting and no other business. When one observes fasting, the chanting becomes easier. So on Ekadasi other business can be suspended as far as possible unless there is some urgent business. ============ REF.
