Guest guest
DEar Pandit ji(s). Jaya Prabhupada. Has any pandit householder in Iskcon published an "sangshipt" version of the most relevant sections of Sat-kriya sara dipika applicable in todays' world for Householders and renunciates? I'd really like such a file for a reference work. Here' in Ukraine today in Dnepropetrovsk, I've lectured on SB 5.13.4. It is difficult for a brahmacari to preach only from the 'theoretical' platform, so I try to quote SB and sadhu's and sadhvi's (dhira grihasthas) I know in such situations. What else can I do? I told the devotees what I vaguely remember about Duryodhana Guru das's translation of Sat Kriya sara dipika about Householder's responsibility to control mind and senses during concieving a child. I remember it mentioned the 15 day period of concieving a child, and different results (good and bad) obtained on different days, in the vedic age kala, desh, and patra was more strictly observed. in 1982 when I saw it, I was attracted to look at it due to the sanskrta slokas and ritual ceremonies, etc. I found some of the courtship (discussions in sanskrta with to be father in law) traditions both humous and outdated, (although amongst the brahmanas 500 years ago it must of been second nature). At that time in 1982 when I saw it, I eroniously thought it was for householders only, so I put it down never to pick it up again. But now I'm especially attracted to the idea of seeing it for the good advice ISKCON devotees can use in all ashramas. I refered to problems such as Kasyapa's divinely ordained 'slip' with Diti, SB 3rd canto (to tell them to beware of consequences undesirable if they slip up), also SB 9.14.36, 6.18.39-43, 6.1.62-63 and successes such as Priyavrata and Barhismati, Maharaja nabhi, etc. Astrology was scrupulously consulted, vaisnava's & brahmanas were fed, and made satisfied, Iskcon rule of 50 rounds, and... good luck! for the rest... Occaisionally in such SB classes, I'm oblidged to try to discuss the vedic standards and try to put them down to earth for the devotees ears. ..although I'm inexperienced practically, due to being situated in ligfelong brahmacari life. yet, I fall at the feet of the dhira's grihasthas devotees to supply me with nice instructions so I may better serve the grihasthas and brahmacaries I meet everywhere I travel.. Aside from Sat kriya sara dipika, I would appreciate any shastric quotes, and practical feedback from "the dhiras" for preaching a well-balanced concientious and practical perspective in the above matters. ys MMdasBR
