Guest guest
Hare Krsna. One more song glorifying Lord Krsna's holy names. It's written in Hindi by Sri Guru Nanak. *************************** My dear mind, please meditate upon the Lord's name; your whole life has passed by without it. 1. A person who does not chant the names of Lord Hari is like the bird without wings, the elephant without tusks, the woman without a man's protection and a son without father. 2. A person who does not chant the names of Lord Hari is like the well without water, the cow without milk, the earth without clouds and like the tree which doesn't bear fruit. 3. A person who does not chant the names of Lord Hari is like the body without eyes, the night without the moon, the temple without a lamp and a pandit who doesn't know the Vedas. 4. O saintly people, give up your lust, anger, ego, greed. Stop revolting against God. Guru Nanak advises that there is no one who is truly yours in this world. PURPORT: Sri Guru Nanak is one of the great devotees of Lord Krishna. In this beautiful devotional song, he explains as to how meaningless our life is when it's devoid of Krsna's names. He gives wonderful examples to drive home the importance of chanting. He uses the examples of the bird, the elephant, the lady and the son to illustrate the point that we are *defenseless*. The bird without wings cannot fly, so if it is attacked, it is utterly helpless. So also the elephant without tusks, a lady without a husband and a child without a father's guidance and care. Krsna is our Supreme Father; by chanting His names we are calling out for help and attention. In the next stanza, Sri Guru Nanak explains the *dry nature* of life without the Lord's names. The well which does not have water, the cow which does not produce milk, the earth when it doesn't have clouds over it and the tree which doesn't bear fruits -- all these show how dry and meaningless our life can be without Krsna's names. Sri Guru Nanak then goes on to illustrate as to how *dark* life would be without chanting. A person without eyes, the night without the moon, the temple without the lamp and the learned scholar who doesn't understand the Vedas -- all these show how dark one's life can be if he doesn't chant the holy names. One has to give up lust, anger, pride and greed and learn to cooperate and live peacefully amongst the devotees of Krsna. There are no true friends other than devotees and the holy name of Krsna.
