Guest guest
Should the word "sei" here be "yei"? There are other verses whose popular equivalent is well known but whose written version in current recensions is different. Examples: 1) prithivite ache joto nagaradi gram (try looking for it in CB--you won't find it. You'll find "prithivi parjonto joto desa-grama" etc.) 2) bhaja gauranga kaha gauranga loho gauranga nama re je jana gauranga bhaje se'ho mora pran re The above is the popular version of ‘caitanya' seva, ‘caitanya' gao, lao ‘caitanya'-nama ‘caitanye' ye bhakti kare, sei mora prana >>> Ref. VedaBase => Madhya 1.29 I suggest that these "folk" versions of important verses may have been composed for and popularized by the "jatra" (Bengali village theater). Another possibilty: apart from the current recensions of CC and CB widely available, there are other versions, some of which have been printed. These other versions of verses might be in an old edition. If you want to research it further, try looking in the big libraries in Calcutta, or consult a professor of Bengali literature in Calcutta or a Gaudiya Vaisnava pandit. Here is another verse well known among Bengali Vaisnavas, the source of which I've not been able to ascertain: jive daya, name ruci, vaisnava sevana iha boi dharma nahi, suno sanatana
