Guest guest
Camp: Essentuki South Russia. Dandavats Maharaja's and Prabhu's. Jaya Prabhupada. > Did you see these Deities in Vrndavan? Yes, They are right accross the street from Vanakhandi Mahadeva. Very easy temple to get to, but it is *so small* it is really easy to pass it by while walking. You should come to Vrndavana to visit Them. They'll keep your health if you sincerely take shelter of Them, can't They? Another very beautiful GN temple is Srila Jagannath das Babaji,s "Sonar (Golden) Gauranga". On the way to Gopinath's temple. Sonara Gaura's index finger is charming pointing upwards... I'm happy you liked that story about Murari Gupta's GN. It shows how "personal" the Lord's of Navadvipa can be with Their surrendered servants. You should tell this story to the disbelievers. Gaura-Nitai (or any deities) are not just wood and stone. They have pastimes all the time in Their deity forms. Since Today is Balarama's appearance festival, in some locations, I hope you don't mind me adding you as a reciever to a file I've sent to others. It's in microsoft word 6.0 format. Use a sansrta font like Balarama, drona etc. to see the diacritics. let me know if you can't open it, still. in case you are observing that festival today you can use it. ys MMDASBR
Guest guest
Dear Maharajas and Prabhus, Dandavats. Jaya Prabhupada! Thanks Mahamantra Prabhu, for sharing such nectar. About three doors down from the intersection of the Loi and Bankhandi bajars, it looks rather like a closet door, beneath the second floor window of a plain, whitewashed building. I think it's unmarked too. Coming from Krishna-Balarama, it will be on the left as one heads for Radha-Shyamasundar, Radharamana, etc. > Sonara Gaura's index finger is charming pointing upwards... The beautifully painted, nim-wood Deities of Pisima's Gaura-Nitai have several unique characteristics too. First of all, they were the Deities worshipped by Caitanya Mahaprabhu's personal associate, the great devotee rmn Murari Gupta, who from his very childhood was a great devotee of Bhagavan Ramacandra, whom Lord Caitanya called an incarnation of Hanumanji, and to whom Mahaprabhu also appeared as Sri Rama. When Murari Gupta requested Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for Gaura-Nitai Sri-vigrahas to worship, the Lord replied that he could have them made according to his own bhakti-bhava. Therefore Murari Gupta had the Deities fashioned with the lotus feet of Sri Krsna-Balarama, the lotus hands of Sri Rama-Laksmana, and the lotus faces of Sri Gaura-Nitai. In this sense, They might even be considered Sad-bhuja Deities (cf. Srimad Bhagavatam, 11.5.34). The Deities are arresting in Their beauty. It is said that the hands of Rama and Laksmana are in the stance of holding bow and arrows, as well as offering benedictions. This, along with Their threefold standing (tribhanga) posture of Krsna-Balarama, makes Them appear something like artistic performers, as if striking a graceful pose in Kathak dance ("Nitai Gaura-nataraja"). They also wear the usual topknots of Sri Gauranga and Nityananda, the dvija-mani brothers of Nadiya. They have large, lotus eyes (kamalayataksa). They are the full moons of Navadvipa, and the twin incarnations of mercy (karunavatarau). Anyone who wishes to do so can render some humble service unto Their lotus feet, by offering one's prana (life), artha (wealth), dhih (intelligence), or vak (speech) in any or all of the nine ways of devotional service. As always, the Lord is ready to reciprocate with anyone who sincerely desires to please Him, as Pisima did when she first saw Sri Gaura-Nitai. And one who completely surrenders to the Lord, as did Pisima, is the most fortunate and intelligent person in this otherwise degraded and inauspicious age. > I'm happy you liked that story about Murari Gupta's GN. If these merciful Gaura-Nitai Deities so aggressively solicit service from various devotees, as They did with the woman from Serpura Begura, etc., etc., just imagine how They will respond to devotees who anticipate Their desires and offer Them unmotivated service first!
