Guest guest
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura would tell those living in the Math, or the Mathavasis, that at night, as soon as they woke up, they shouldn't go back to sleep again, but get up, even if it was very early like 2.00am, and chant the holy name. Many devotees followed this advice and rose very early to chant. "Chant the nama mahima (glories of the holy name). Practice that. I also do that. Harinam is our life," he would say. Early each morning, at four-thirty, a bell was rung in the Math to wake everyone up, and Sarasvati Thakura himself would come down to the Nat Mandira and wake those devotees who were still sleeping, telling them, "Don't sleep after the bell has been sounded. Get up." >From notes on SBSST by Bhakti Vikasa Swami On waking, don't lie in your bedding trying to enjoy the stupor of semi-consciousness. Rise immediately and chant Hare Krsna. Reluctant risers should be firmly coaxed into action - don't let them rot in their misery. >From Bhakti Vikasa Swami's BIKC
